German gymnastics team, tired of 'sexualisation,' wears unitards at Tokyo Olympics

@katie4469 Honestly, speaking as someone who wears leotards and unitards on a regular basis (not a gymnast, but I practice aerials and leotards are just easier than tank tops), both full-length and short-length unitards suffer from the same fit issues. It’s just so hard to get a good fit on one...

German gymnastics team, tired of 'sexualisation,' wears unitards at Tokyo Olympics

@katie4469 The men switch between shorts and pants on different apparatuses because of this. On vault and floor they need to be able to grab their legs (if you pay attention before they get on the floor, they often chalk up the back of their legs). But the loose shorts they wear could catch a...

    Internalized misogyny and sports?

@lorial My main workout method is aerial arts, and while most of my fellow students (along with the instructors) are women, we do have some male students. Now for me, aerial arts has been one giant exercise in learning how not to compare myself or my journey to anyone else. So I’m on the curvier...

Fit/active women of Reddit, what’s your weekly exercise routine like?

@acco340 I get pretty bad knee pain when I do a lot of lower body work and don’t stretch. Even adding in some easy squats to my warmup can give me issues if I don’t make sure to stretch and roll out my quads and hamstrings properly. Now everyone is a little different, but it may be worth making...

    The Elusive Pull-Up

@dawn16 I’ve been doing aerials for a few years now, and it took me just over 2 to get a pull-up. And that was with training my upper body strength pretty consistently. Everything will come in time, and honestly, it just made it that much more exciting for me when I achieved it. (Also...

    The Elusive Pull-Up

@dawn16 I like to pull a chair over to my bar and put my feet on it to assist if I’m not feeling particularly strong. It’ll either go almost directly under me, so I start in more of a squat position (easier) or a couple of feet in front so I’m in more of a pike position (harder).

Ok I finally got onboard with stretching..but now I need specific help!

@vivienita That’ll depend on what your goals are and any what other workouts you’re doing. For instance, if you’re into hiking and running, lots of hamstring, quad, calf, and foot stretches would be in order. I practice aerials, so I tailor my warm ups and stretches to what I know I’ll be...

@vivienita Honestly, if that video is working for you, keep up with it for now. The best thing you can do for flexibility is be consistent, and keep at it (almost) every day.
