How I got the Full Front Lever

@dawn16 Hey. Yeah I did the same programme twice per week.

    Who coined the term “calisthenics”?

@royelano Nice find! I’m gonna add that to my post.

How I got the Full Front Lever

@dawn16 I’ve never heard that before. Where did you hear that? So I would do the right leg first for 6-10s. Then take a 3-5min rest. That’s one set. Then left (set 2) > right (set 3) > left (set 4), and then for the final 5th set (I didn’t mention this) I’d usually go for a 1/2 straddle or...

How I got the Full Front Lever

@howwhen Thank you! Yeah that is one of the negatives of training these strength skills, the workouts can be quite time consuming. I suppose you could lower the progression and subsequently lower the rest time if you were stuck for time, but then technically speaking you wouldn't be training...

My Handstand Journey: What I wish I knew when I began

    @ayeesha Awesome stuff! Thanks

How I got the Full Front Lever

@stamstam I must admit there were some training sessions where I would use a band to assist me with the negatives, and occasionally to assist with FFL rows. But In the end I stopped using them since although they were good in helping me internalise good form, I didn't quite get the same pump...

    Who coined the term “calisthenics”?

@bbbeatt It certainly makes for a nice story, but I don’t think there is enough (if any) evidence that the term Calisthenics, albeit having been taken from the Greek language, is actually a Greek term. European scholars have been adapting Greek and Latin terms for use in academia for centuries...

    The science behind the warmup

@peslaugh Admittedly it certainly seems like everyone has a different definition of what a warm-up actually constitutes. Those saying “I never warm up” but then go on to say they do 5 pyramid sets starting with light weights, clearly have categorised warmups as a CV only type affair.

@fightingbull542 This is right up my street! Thanks

How I got the Full Front Lever

@sister_diane All of my FL work was done on my tall parallettes (aka. dip bars), so the very bottom of my negative or FL pull was closer to between 90-110° mark than it was the 180°. The only time I did pulls from 180° was back when I first started experimenting with calisthenics at the gym...

    Who coined the term “calisthenics”?

@prettyicke I’m from the U.K. and I use the term Calisthenics fully aware that 99% of people have no idea what it is, so I always add a brief description of what it actually entails to help “spread the word”, as it were.

My Handstand Journey: What I wish I knew when I began

Hi all, thought I'd share this to help anyone who is struggling or just starting out with their handstands. My HS journey began a good year and a half ago. It has taken me that long to competently and consistently hold 10+ second HSs (which was my original goal). I had a solid strength base...

How I got the Full Front Lever

@burtonlux Hey. Its been awhile but I believe at the time I would train FL one pull day, and then one-arm chins the next pull day. The reason I stopped was because I got golfer’s elbow thanks to the OAC training. I’d wager if you wanted to really nail the FL in record time, just stick with that...

    Who coined the term “calisthenics”?

@solaslove Can’t tell if you’re pulling everyone’s leg or not...either way, I’ll bite. I googled your “Calisthenius” but couldn’t find anything. I did, however, find a Greek historian called “Callisthenes” who accompanied Alexander the Great on his Asian expedition. Wiki article here. Problem...

How I got the Full Front Lever

@lmay4111 Yeah why not. It makes logical sense and the progressions are such that it gives the body time to adapt. I never really tested it with planche so can’t speak from experience. If you have success please do let me know!

    The science behind the warmup

@jermyn One day, when I’m not a poor postgrad student, I think I’d like to hire your services (or at least try out one of your programs). One final question if I may! You obviously prioritise rest and recuperation between workouts, but for skills like Handstands which arguably require daily...
