Can doing less *really* lead to more results?

@0st Absolutely. I've lost weight/fat while dialing back the volume on my lifting workouts. I went from running the full version of Stronger by the Day to the Express version, which basically eliminates a set of each exercise in the program. I figured that since I'm not trying to build muscle...

Has anyone had a silly “lightbulb” moment while exercising?

@zg713 This video helped me a ton with my bench form. A trainer isn't a bad idea though. I worked out with one for about a year when I was getting back into lifting a few years ago after a long break.

Has anyone had a silly “lightbulb” moment while exercising?

@acer621 I was dying watching this teenager bench this morning while I was warming up on the treadmill. His set up was all wrong, wasn't performing an arc motion with barbell, barbell was wobbling like crazy because he didn't stabilize his shoulders, not using his legs at all. His dad was...

Fit/active women of Reddit, what’s your weekly exercise routine like?

@kereena When things were really bad during the summer I was only doing body weight and resistance bands for lower body exercises. As things have improved I have added weight back in but not doing anything that aggravates my back. I'm fully functional these days just not moving as much weight as...

Fit/active women of Reddit, what’s your weekly exercise routine like?

@thehandshaker Yoga is a nice complement to lifting but I never saw serious strength or muscle gains until I started lifting regularly.

Fit/active women of Reddit, what’s your weekly exercise routine like?

@thehandshaker I usually spend an hour to 75 mins at the gym. I just follow my program and it takes however long it takes. It's a fantastic program I have built a ton of muscle and learned so much about lifting in the 2+ years I've been doing it.

Fit/active women of Reddit, what’s your weekly exercise routine like?

@rougepaper I do Stronger by the Day too. I don't have set days that I lift, I just make sure that I get all four workouts in every week. I practice yoga of various styles and intensities (I have a goal for January to get on the mat everyday for a minimum of 10 mins) and take my dog on long...

Petite people: what do you consume to get enough protein for muscle building?

@sunset100 Regular old peanut butter is what I usually have. I'll put a tablespoon in my oatmeal or I'll spread some on a wasa cracker or directly onto a banana for a snack.

Petite people: what do you consume to get enough protein for muscle building?

@vman8r 5'2" 135 lbs vegan here. I maintain on about 2000 calories per day but I don't track everything currently since I don't feel the need to. Favorite vegan protein sources are beans, lentils, tofu, whole grain bread, tempeh, edamame, nut butter/tahini and soy milk. Also while they don't...

What's something you wish you started doing sooner/knew earlier in your fitness journey?

@colwyn I wish I had started following a program written by a professional sooner rather than putting together my own plans. I didn't injure myself or anything but I also didn't progress as much I would have liked doing my own thing.

What’s your optimal workout time(s) and what time do you actually do it?

@hungry_hungry_hippo If I didn't have a job, or had different hours, I would work out from 3-4 pm. Alas, I am employed, so I usually end up working out on weekdays from 6-7 am and my 3 pm workouts happen on the weekends.

@elijahtocome Read the Notes for the Week and it will help explain things. I've copy and pasted the monthly/mesocycle programming overview: We're in the fourth of five monthly mesocycles in this longer, 21-week macrocycle. We're pushing ahead with our traditional linear periodization. The...

What are your non scale goals for July/august?

@uticus I got a stand-up paddleboard a month ago and I've been loving exploring different areas with it. I would love to visit 12 unique bodies of water this summer. So far I'm at 4 and I live near a bunch of different lakes, ponds and reservoirs so I think it's doable.

how do you manage stress in ways that aren’t exercise??

@porcelainrose So glad that you are talking with your doctor to try and resolve this. Here are my favorite non-exercise stress relievers: -intimacy with my husband, not even necessarily sex but just being close to one another. Feeling his skin on my skin instantly makes the stress melt away...

What does 2000 calories look like to you?

@rue77 I roughly eat 2000 calories per day. I have tracked in the past but don't track currently. Here's what today looks like: Breakfast: Oatmeal with half a banana, half cup of mixed berries, 2 TBSP ground flax seeds, 1 tbsp peanut butter Lunch: (dinner leftovers usually) corn, red lentil...
