integrating met-con into strength training routine?

@ocean27 I hear you on that! Unfortunately you are compromising your progress on strength by doing this. Up to you whether it's worth the tradeoff.

integrating met-con into strength training routine?

@ocean27 Metcons are a great way to get your accessory work in, but don't try to turn your main lifts into metcons. You need that between-set rest to be able to lift heavy enough to make good strength progress. If you're using lighter weights temporarily because you're dealing with an injury...

[52 F] Weighted Overhead Barbell Squats = Fall, go boom

@jandp She did 31 out of 32 reps. She was clearly ready for it. I'm middle aged. I fall on my ass all the time. It's not courting injury to fail a lift on rubber mats, I promise.

My roommates keep calling me gym obsessed.

@kmar123 That's a fine schedule if it fits in well with the rest of your life--if the workouts are a reasonable length, you're eating enough, you're recovering well, you're not letting fitness concerns take over your life in an unhealthy way, etc. The fact that your roommates are concerned...

[52 F] Weighted Overhead Barbell Squats = Fall, go boom

@jandp Overhead squats can be hard but you don't need years of experience to give them a try.

    Linda - women’s opinions?

@mixpanema For me, those numbers work out to 66% of my max deadlift, 89% of my bench, and 60% of my clean. Definitely unbalanced for me, and my bench isn’t too shabby for a weightlifter!

Taller ladies with very long femurs - Does Squatting Ever Get Easier?

@faithfulsteward7 We can squat just fine but we need to let our knees go forward of our toes (it does not physically work to squat otherwise) and this requires a serious amount of ankle mobility. The longer your femurs, the more likely your ankles are to hold you back. 10000% this. It's...

How do you deal with workout shamming?

@jesrel it's true that there is a level of overwork/underfueling that can put anybody at risk of RED-S. (This number is different for everybody, and yes there are reasons why women are more at risk). To answer the question you asked: no, a 2-3 mile run before a workout is not inherently bad...

Sheffield Powerlifing 2023: Preview and discussion post

@nathan2018 I love this post, thank you for explaining! I have heard some of these names but didn't know exactly what Sheffield was or the storylines coming into it. Exciting!

    Alternatives to 500 pound club?

@crazythat He's right, but that's a point in your favor, not against. Continue being big and strong.

Why am I so bad at running, but do well in other cardio related activities?

@kmar123 Very likely this is a combination of running too fast (think of it as "jog and brisk walk," not "sprint and recover") and just it being your first time doing it. It takes time to get used to running. btw if "choking" is literally how it felt, you might want to look into the possibility...

How do you keep energised at work without surgery snacks when dieting?

@divinity3 So if undereating makes you crave sugary snacks, and undereating + sugary snacks makes you gain rather than lose weight, it sounds like what you're doing currently is not working. What other approaches to dieting have you tried before, and have any of them worked well for you?

    The Elusive Pull-Up

@charliedavidson Lat pulldown is short for latissimus dorsi (the back muscles), not lateral (a directional word meaning sideways)

How do you keep energised at work without surgery snacks when dieting?

@divinity3 You'll definitely be healthier overall. But tell me, what results have you gotten from your current approach of undereating at meals and then having lots of sugary snacks? Is that working for you?

[52 F] Weighted Overhead Barbell Squats = Fall, go boom

@ihavetwofeet41 It's not key for training.

How do you keep energised at work without surgery snacks when dieting?

@divinity3 Ohh yeah, that's only like 1600 which is not a lot for the amount of activity you do. Try adding more food to your meals and I bet you'll have a ton more energy and be more successful in your weight loss overall.

Feeling so incredibly overwhelmed by the amount of "best" workout routines

@icecreamballer “Best” workout programs are like “best” recipes. They’re just opinions and you shouldn’t expect everyone to agree. Check out the r/fitness wiki, all the programs in there are good (or at least they’re not bad) and there are all different kinds. Btw as a beginner the good news...

How do you keep energised at work without surgery snacks when dieting?

@divinity3 How many calories are you eating, and do you track your TDEE (either with MacroFactor or with the spreadsheet from the r/fitness wiki)? I ask because cravings/snacking are often your body's way of trying to stay alive on a large deficit. Your mention of fatigue also suggests that you...

Was it dangerous to bail out of my squat with my hair like this? (See image)

@johnmarsten No. There's a video floating around where a girl with long hair bails on a squat and it looks like the hair gets snagged and pulls her over--but if you slow down the video it becomes clear that the bar caught her belt because she didn't get her hips out of the way. Nothing to do...
