Is 2-3 minutes between sets too long? I keep getting rude looks from guys at the gym..

@lionofthesun You're allowed to meticulously observe the degree of separation between your chesticles in front of the mirror in rare and exceptional cases. You must underline your meticulosity with appropriately low-pitched grunts and humming noises. It is rumored to mimic a call upon the gainz...

Did anybody stop short of their weight loss goals because they realized they liked their body at a higher weight?

@wedemars Reminds me of how in supermarkets the item is sold for $1.99 instead of just making it $2.

Is 2-3 minutes between sets too long? I keep getting rude looks from guys at the gym..

@1stbrownhorse No, this is not too much. In fact, resting anywhere from 3-5 minutes between heavy sets is more than acceptable. Strenth athletes do this as well. You are not getting dirty looks because of the time you rest, you're getting dirty looks because you're on your phone. People love...

German gymnastics team, tired of 'sexualisation,' wears unitards at Tokyo Olympics

@acer621 Love it, they've been doing it for a while! Since worlds and domestic competitions in Germany. Before them, Jana El-Keky from Quatar has competed in Doha Worlds 2018 in a longer-legged leo. And for many years, Azerbaijan's Marina Nekrasova has chosed unitards like the German women wear...

What's something you wish you started doing sooner/knew earlier in your fitness journey?

@pastormoazzam Yep. I'm 25 and I developed insomnia a few years ago. It gets better and worse it times, but it made me lose all respect for fatigue culture. It's not even hustle culture anymore, it's fatigue culture. I work in a research lab and am in a master's program and swear I get the same...

What's something you wish you started doing sooner/knew earlier in your fitness journey?

@colwyn These threads come up every so often and I never get tired of them. Some things can't be repeated often enough. Speaking of tired, rest. Rest is part of (as in, included in, mandatory, non-negotiable) any good program. If a program skips over rest or treats it as a necessary evil which...

Very uplifting article I found about female strength training. Belief in yourself and your abilities is so important!!

@christi79 Even in the evidence based fitness community there are few people (men, there's a striking lack of women as well as POC of any gender) who don't talk about things as if male was the default. Menno Henselmans is one of them. Abrasive as he is, Lyle McDonalds is another one. You can...

What are some simple things you all do to improve your fitness?

@eyeq I make certain I walk a lot daily. Most weeks I average around 13k daily steps and I prefer to get 12k or above. I find it helps with my mental health, helps me recover from training better (particularly all the passive structures in my lower back, hips and knees stay loose, which is...

    Pilates-tok?

@seekinganswersinlife There is, as there has always been, lots of bullshit around on the internet. It used to be forums and blogs, not it is social media. We can argue about whether content creators have a moral obligation to put out accurate info in their content. But undeniably, the onus is on...

Anyone here ever had to change their “fitness identity”?

@gladaonkth It's because they aren't doing it for you, they're doing it for themselves. It's the "you" they are comfortable with and if you change that (how dare you!) you're inconveniencing their view of their own little universe. As annoying as it may be to realize that somebody has made you...

I feel like I’m bulking wrong and don’t know what to do?

@retropod From the calorie side, you seem to be fine from the info you delivered. However, I'm wondering about your training. You may be doing all the right exercises to hit full body and emphasize on what you favor, but if you aren't really using the bulk to push yourself hard on progression...

    How my gym views women

@debyfabienne I was never a clever fit goer, but I went to fitinn (servus oida) for years and while the actual gym was nice, the casual body shaming marketing was abysmal. Was absolutely mind-blown when I entered a gym where women weren't expected to want to be small and decorative.

Sheffield Powerlifing 2023: Preview and discussion post

@nathan2018 I gotta say I think the main battle is going to be between Jess and Lina. Agata is the youngest and while that may help her overtake the other two eventually, it's not necessarily an immediate advantage as it would be in other sports. Plus, she's been somewhat unstrategic with...

Sheffield Powerlifing 2023: Preview and discussion post

@nathan2018 Oh god, so I want Jess to take it, mainly for my feelings. But Karlina is an absolute monster and I don't feel safe betting against her. Your turn.

Sheffield Powerlifing 2023: Preview and discussion post

@nathan2018 The biggest storyline to me is by far the battle of the -76s. My patient ass has waited way too long and I am deeply invested in this matchup.

[MOD NOTE] r/xxfitness was hacked, and is temporarily private

@andersenkc To the mods: you are awesome and thank you for all of the hard work you put in. This Trump hack situation felt like bizzaro world. But this sub is such a labour of love thanks to you guys.

Experienced lifters, how much do you b/s/d? Either 1 RM or typical training weights

@frbrian Get on your hands. I think the only reason I was able to get a decent OHP after only introducing that lif in December was because I spend a lot of times on my hands (handstands, handsprings, giant swings, etc.) due to my sport. It's a really tough lift.

IPF World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships in Malta: Preview and discussion post

@nathan2018 I'm also excited for the -83 and if Ena is going to figure out his grip consistency issue and actually pull above 400 kg, like he's alluding to on social media. He gave us that haily mary pull moment last year. Big question mark on Chance as well, given he pulled out of Sheffield...

Experienced lifters, how much do you b/s/d? Either 1 RM or typical training weights

@frbrian I've been lifting for exactly a year, with the first 6-7 months in a deficit and screwed over by several injuries, sadly, so progress has been slow, but here are my numbers: Bench: 52.5kg/115lbs for 3 Squat: 85kg/187lbs for a clean and a grindy one Dealdift: 95kg/210lbs for 2-3...
