5’2, 175lbs, history of binge eating, so confused!

@jwishum 5'1 and 191 now, lost from 201 on 1600 to 1800 calories plus 10k steps a day and once a week workout. It's doable. You're a nurse, you need food to fuel all that moving around! You're no good to anyone if you faint. You've all the time in the world, take your time and learn what works...

What's something you wish you started doing sooner/knew earlier in your fitness journey?

@speirsaaron That's what I try to use as motivation. I want to find out what my body can do.

Just for fun: what’s everyone’s favorite fitness/health “fact” that’s been debunked?

@lettuce For some people, artificial sweeteners taste bad. For some of us, there is absolutely no bad taste to them. My roommate can only have erythritol, while I enjoy all of them and use them sometimes to lower my calories.

Just for fun: what’s everyone’s favorite fitness/health “fact” that’s been debunked?

@autonomicrake Yeah, the amount of people who get after me for daring to drink diet pepsi is astounding, since they're normally reasonably smart people. Even though I used to drink 2 L of Pepsi Max a day, that's still not an unsafe amount of aspartame, or even caffeine. I've cut back since, but...

Did anybody stop short of their weight loss goals because they realized they liked their body at a higher weight?

@dawn16 If it helps, I'm 5'1 and was 120 lbs in my late teens when I still had a metabolism, lol. I'll be thrilled if I get below 160. Muscles mean more than weight, I think. Work on getting and staying strong, you'll look lean and toned and good regardless of weight. I firmly believe that.

What workout videos do you find yourself returning to?

@cb4yah I really like Jessica Smith for walking videos. Haven't checked out WW, will do that!

    Anyone here taking "diet breaks"?

@conservativechristian I think if you go to maintenance, you will gain a bit, because more food needs more water to digest it, and that will show on the scale. So don't freak out if you bump a couple pounds. That said, it also gives your body a break and reduces the physical stress of eating...

Should I start lifting weights and doing body recomp while I’m still obese or wait until I lose a good portion of the weight?

@indent Maybe try it after finals, see what you think. I'm 210 at 5'1" right now, and I love lifting because it makes me feel strong. I've only gone twice in the last 2 months, but my squat was 85 and my bench 75 for 8 reps, so not nothing! And if you start with dumbbells instead of the bar, it...

Some struggles living in Japan and deciding to take back control of my weight

@but_first_coffee This just got me to take some vit D. I have hypothyroidism, treated, but I still have the symptoms. My vit D has been low before and I burn easily so don't go outside much. Thanks for the reminder of the link!

Should I start lifting weights and doing body recomp while I’m still obese or wait until I lose a good portion of the weight?

@sacm Being heavy, I totally agree. I know I've a fair bit of muscle under my fat, my problem right now is balancing it. I've recently realized my knee pain is probably in part to my quads being tight, but I've also realized my hamstrings are weaker than I realized. Same for my lower back being...
