What does r/fitness not understand about CrossFit?

@richard11 In general, most guys outside of Crossfit only care about aesthetics and strength. They don't have any concept of other dimensions of fitness (endurance, power, mobility, skill work, cardio) hence they see Crossfit as suboptimal for their 2 simple goals. To be clear, Crossfit is...

    Remembering Weights

@khurram79 After awhile, it stops being math and is just a thing you know. I know a men's bar with 2x45 plates on it is 135. I didn't do any math there: I just know it after doing it so many times. The same thing will probably happen to you after awhile. You just start to know how to hit the...

Are there any exercise more brutal than the horse stance?

@graced1257 Cool. If you want a dynamic version, you can try doing it with Sally.

Why is 60 minutes classes the standard? 90 minutes classes would be much more efficient

@bldssphq Most boxes waste so much time in 60 minutes that I am hesitant to give them more time. The best box I went to got warmup, strength, and a metcon done in 50 minutes. This was during COVID when fitness classes had to have 10 minute gaps between classes. Nothing improves efficiency...

Daughter 7 and son 9 can dead hang comfortably for 3 and a half minutes

@rando If anyone is curious, the video OP is referring to is a Nick Symmonds video. And yeah, some of the kids hang forever.

Are there any exercise more brutal than the horse stance?

@graced1257 I've done wall sits, but never tried horse stance. How long could you hold it?

    Murph preperation

@snowzee The best Murph prep I ever did was doing some version of Cindy + running once a week for about 6 weeks. Basically any WOD you invent with running and a 1:2:3 ratio of pullups/pushups/squats is going to be really great preparation. Cindy : 20 Minute AMRAP: 5 pullups 10 Pushups 15 squats

    Assault Bike Wods

@scorpius22 300 calories. 10 burpees every 3 minutes. Start with burpees. BTW, that was a rower workout, but pretty much any good rowing workout can be done on the bike, too.

    Why couldn’t I do a single pull-up?

@decaturfamily Those grip names are the fancier names for pullup (pronated) and chinup (supinated).

How and why do very short (e.g., 1-2 second) breaks help in workouts?

@truthfullyspeaking The thing that always blows my mind is how you'll be rolling on the floor dying after some WODs, but 15 seconds earlier you were actually doing the thing. I know there is often an element to sprinting when finishing a WOD, but the contrast is so stark. I often wonder, "Could...

    Relationships and CrossFit

@sherryanne Is this on top of working at a job and/or being a student? It's hard to give advice without knowing what else is taking up your time.

What is the realistic highest standard I could get and how to get there?

@asdfbill75 Check out some of the videos WODprep has made in the last few months. He has several series about building foundations and how to get the most out of your training time.

Two Months of Crossfit Update w/ Q’s

@ppaws45 Some suggestions I would make: Ring dips: You can safely try one if the rings are close to the ground. Maybe even put a foot down on the floor to reduce your weight. If you are really struggling, there are some progressions. First, work on ring support hold. Then you can work on ring...

    Worst WODs for a newbie

@mydonspace One of my old gyms used to have days where they just programmed strength. One day, the entire class was just practicing drop snatch. Probably the most pointless exercise in human existence for someone new to fitness and I was paired with a new guy. To this day I think it was the...

    explanation for this pls

@meghagupta Cool explanation...but man, that convention of smashing two numbers together (2 and 1 for 21) is really confusing. I've never seen that done anywhere else.
