hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@mikeb34 I will be careful for sure, I've a L5/S1 herniation, so twisting movements kill me but also sort of why I want to very carefully train them. Will look into isometrics. Sandbags I guess would be an at home thing since the gym doesn't really have them.

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@kellypq The very natural movements of the human body include resting a steel bar over ones traps. Just stop. Ill once more reiterate I don't and never doubted the efficacy of the exercises.

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@kellypq never doubted the big 4 are great. Said there is more than way to get to the goal, not trying to get the most optimum thing ever. Trying to avoid injury. That should have been clear. If it wasn't its because you're projecting your own beliefs and reading into it what I wrote to get...

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@lyndsey I do goblet and belt. Mostly dropped goblet, except for Sundays when my dad comes to the gym with me and I'm trying to help him, I do them side by side with him. I want to try hack squats too, but damn those machines are hard to get comfortable in.

@curtswill I do squat, belt squat and goblet (mentioned in the original post).

    Review my Program?

@niko92 I was looking for feedback, I don't think it is great. I've thrown it together so I have something to do after I bench. Nutrition not relevant. I've ample protein, overall energy, and rest. I'm doing a minor recomposition. My target weight is probably going to be 205, historically it...

    Review my Program?

@jimhempel I'll check it out. Everyone says good things about that program. totally agree re: you can only find a kettlebell which is so heavy / eventually your grip isn't strong enough. When that happens I'll move to traditional squat - maybe, but again only if I correct my hip issue

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@curtswill Hard on muscles is fine, compression of spine is not fine. Especially given where the bulge is. I would try them, not regularly do them forever if it didn't make sense. I'm open to trying things and also open to dropping things which are proven to not work for me.

    Review my Program?

@jimhempel So my program right now is: Day 1, 70%, 2 sets 8 reps, 1 set AMAP Day 2, 75%, 2 sets 6 reps, 1 set AMAP Day 3, 80%, 2 sets 4 reps, 1 set AMAP And then I do additional chest work after (incline, etc, as shown above) I think you registered all this though, and you're still saying...

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@mitsuha I didn't mind front squats either when I've done them. I feel like I have a bit of anterior pelvic tilt from cycling/sitting as well, so front squats might be a bit more compatible with that -but that is entirely speculation. I'll give them a shot again eventually. Honestly I did...

@lyndsey Yeah I know they are the kings, and I do the ones which I can. But my back injuries won't let me traditional highbar squats w/o pain quite yet and probably ever. I like the idea of looking into the strongman stuff. Thanks

Why don't men hire health coaches as much as women?

@lelalodavis It's funny because when I wrote that I was thinking of what others should do, but of course the implication is that we should all do it and therefore you should do it to. So regardless of whether you're distracted by something or believe others identify you as the distraction, it...

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@borisv I can already do a 7.5 minute mile, more meant that I want to be able to retain or improve cardio. Don't think I could do 3 miles right now, e.g in 22.5, would gas. My endurance isn't what it used to be, not that ~5k is "endurance" to begin with. I do single arm carries and such. Not...

Why don't men hire health coaches as much as women?

@lelalodavis Yeah I see your profile and I get it and sorry that has happened to you. Everyone gets distracted in group fitness - from the person breathing hard, grunting on every lift, from the hot chick / guy, or the person who dresses differently. The ideal thing is to notice your noticing...

Help getting in shape for a chunky monkey (37M, 6'2, 290 lbs)

@living4christ560 Not sure how athletic you were before in your life, but I was in a similar situation where I'd gotten a few injuries and put on extra weight, at the same height. What I decided was that in order to safely exercise and not stress my joints, I first needed to lose a lot of...

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@joyincite Yeah, it's that last part of "may not be best for an individual" that people on Reddit tend to completely dismiss and refuse to look past. There is only one path to success for them and they don't see themselves as the zealots they are when they discuss it

Why don't men hire health coaches as much as women?

@lelalodavis Okay, but this is an unfounded belief of how some might react rather than an objective view of how people actually do behave in practice. Almost everyone is just trying to get their workout on and don't give a shit. This is your insecurity - not trying to harsh and I'm sorry that...

    Review my Program?

@itrm Out of all of them, I take Dr. Mike with the largest grain of salt - he explicitly says in his videos (Nippard too) that his target audience is really advanced weightlifters, maybe advanced intermediates too. But yes, I learned a very very long time ago that fitness / health / diet is all...
