Why don't men hire health coaches as much as women?

@lelalodavis I guarantee you - no one cares, no one. Just consider the type of women who go to the gym in the first place... they are not intimidated by men. If they were at a CKO kickboxing or Barry's Bootcamp (those are targeted at women) sure.. maybe... but I'm assuming that isn't the case here.

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@andrewm12 That is not my argument, please stop putting words in my mouth. At no time, ever, did I say the big 4 are dangerous. I can't do barbell squats, I do other squat forms. I've never done OHP, said I'd be open to it, but from what I've seen it is hard to execute well and you can hurt...

@londonmum I haven't! Thanks for the rec. Found Pat Mac and Bioneer which have some good ideas. Will watch when I get home later. Thanks

Why don't men hire health coaches as much as women?

@gm0nkx You already know the reason. Pride. It's the same reason why group fitness classes are 80% women. Men think they should already know how to do these things so are too ashamed to admit they don't. Instead they'd rather swing a 20 lb dumbbell around swaying their back into it in the most...

    Review my Program?

@itrm Agree on RDLs v. deadlifts, I watch a good amount of what I consider to be creditable YouTubers and they seem to agree (Squat University, Jeff Nippard, Renaissance Periodization, AthleanX) As for squats - yes, I like front squats, getting your elbow up that high is a bit weird, but I...

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@mitsuha Basically, I don't want to load my spine. I think I would have loved OHP too many years ago, it looks cool.

    Review my Program?

@jimhempel Okay so we're in agreement re: the value of compound exercises But then how are goblet, hack and belt squat not acceptable alternatives and not also compound exercises? same for RDLs And crap, I'm just realizing I excluded the goblet squats that I am regularly doing from my program...

    Review my Program?

@jimhempel re: squats/deadlifts, it's barbell squats and traditional deadlifts specifically which I'm avoiding, for now, until I fix my hip imbalances as mentioned. So I'm concentrating on single leg deadlifts and other forms of squat. Yes, the reverse hypers are for my back. I just needed a...

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@londonmum Like the strongman suggestion, someone else suggested it. I was also thinking about people who train with those weighted maces. I still squat btw and am doing single leg RDLs with a KB. Will do RDLs or deadlifts again eventually when my hips are more balanced. OHP I feel like is...

    Review my Program?

@lanman87 I can deadlift properly and squat well, very low, full ROM. I just don't enjoy it because I'm nervous about injury. Last time I deadlifted (few weeks back) very low weight (60 a side, so 165 lb total) I'm happy to do low weight like that, but am exploring squat alternatives like belt...

    working out on company time

@hkwh2019 Do you have set hours? Are you missing meetings or blocking off time on your cal? Your employer shouldn't care if you're WFH, getting your work done, and are available as necessary esp. if something critical is going down... Glad you found something which works great for you

    8:30 mile testing

@oldgringo I think the general rule for running is to run at a faster pace (or more distance) than which you want to perform at... so if you ran do it at 7.5, the treadmill doesn't matter. This is also my pace nowadays

    Review my Program?

Feel free to skip the background if it is too much Background 40 y/o male 6'2", 225 lbs (highest weight I've ever been) and 25% body fat (according to the InBody machine) I've been athletic in the past mostly endurance/cardio stuff I've weight lifted in the past, but have only taken it...

Podcast Summary: Why Dr. Mike Israetel Changed His Mind on Fat Loss Strategies, Fasting & Blood Sugar

@thechristenedviking Fruitarians are crazy people. Putting that to the side, I apologize - you were correct re: the links in the original article. It's really unfortunate about that first study you're linking here. I pulled the text on SciHub, 13 subjects with BMI 33.6 +/- 1.3. Otherwise it...

Podcast Summary: Why Dr. Mike Israetel Changed His Mind on Fat Loss Strategies, Fasting & Blood Sugar

@thechristenedviking I mean... when I wrote '60 grams of sucrose' I wasn't talking about mangoes. I'm talking about processed foods, sodas, white sugar laden junk food - that's why I mentioned "easily ingest". No one easily ingests 20 servings of fruit in a day. That link is not a study...

    Easily get tired?

@isabella728xx I want to make sure I interpreted that correctly - by the time you got to 26 years of age you started to get easily tired? Have you done blood work? Putting that to the side. I don't know what your athletic history is but from what you're saying I'm guessing you've never very...

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

@nelliebly This isn't the first time I've lifted consistently, but I've been back at it over the past 3 months and take it for sure more seriously than I did in my 20s. I've a back injury, I'm not doing barbell squats. I specifically asked for a program which worked for others, but putting...

Podcast Summary: Why Dr. Mike Israetel Changed His Mind on Fat Loss Strategies, Fasting & Blood Sugar

@werewolf Ahh, I see - that makes sense, thank you. I did keto for a short while (less than 3 months) and while I used a lot of butter, I think it would be hard to max out on it w/o carbs - at least for the way I cook. I guess if you're going hard on cheese and red meats maybe easier. I would...

hybrid functional strength programs? also... avoiding the big 4 nonsense

I feel like some of the fitness subs are some combination of toxic or stupidly dogmatic when it comes to barbell squats, deadlifts, bench, and OHP as the solution to all strength and mobility issues. I bench, am working on single leg kb rdls, and do belt / goblet squat though to be clear. I see...
