Getting a gym membership today and I’m already anxious and embarrassed

@joanie59 No one starts off fit. Everyone has to start somewhere and it is important to note that. You are making an effort to change your daily habits to improve on yourself in ways you think have room for improvement. That in itself is amazing.

Is this dumb? Why can’t I enjoy my free gym options? Just get the expensive membership?

@jay1969 FWIW when I first started to work out I used free workouts to get I to the habit. A daily walk, a quick at home workout I found online, something like that. When I was able to consistently workout for a month, I joined an expensive gym in my area. I wanted to make sure I didn't waste...

How long can it take to see significant improvement in cardio endurance?

@kmar123 So the c25K for me was a struggle. I repeated weeks and it took me much longer to complete it. However, one I reached that point where I could run 25minutes straight, I improved drastically. After that I spent a month running 2-3 miles 3 times a week and the. Switched to the bridge...

Losing weight = more unwanted attention/harassment?

@dawn16 I totally agree. It shows more about them than it does about me, but I also am afraid to cause waves like this because these parents teach their kids. The last thing I want if for these kids to start picking on my child. The last time another parent said something to me, I asked her...

Why am I so bad at running, but do well in other cardio related activities?

@kmar123 Running is a beast of its own. I teach spin and have taught classes back to back and while tiring, I can get through it. But running? That requires consistent training. It's a full body experience. During COVID I started with runners world intro 5k program, then moved onto their...

Losing weight = more unwanted attention/harassment?

@richardparker My typical response is along the lines of “If your child treated others as you treated me, would that make you proud?” Basically I ask them if they teach their children to be mean and make them question the example they set for their own children. But honestly, most people...

Losing weight = more unwanted attention/harassment?

@milan45 I feel like it’s kind of safer all around. I have 2 young kids. When I go pick up my daughter at preschool I have to be careful what I wear. Wearing the same leggings and sweatshirt or jeans and t shirt that the other mom’s wear gets me a lot of dirty looks. One day I went to get my...

Did anybody stop short of their weight loss goals because they realized they liked their body at a higher weight?

@marjo Oh man I fluctuate between 143-147 weekly and I don’t know how to break it without restricting my diet. I feel like if I cut calories I will be so irritable so I’m afraid to do so

Did anybody stop short of their weight loss goals because they realized they liked their body at a higher weight?

@marjo Replying to this comment as it’s not letting me reply to your comment to me asking “Do you exercise at all?” Yes, I do. This would be the wrong sub for me if I didn’t. I run about 25 miles/week between 4 runs, 1 is a recovery run of 30 minutes/easy paced 3 miles. I also weight...

Did anybody stop short of their weight loss goals because they realized they liked their body at a higher weight?

@jacklein This is so me. Everytime I get to 143lb the next week I shoot up back to 148 and then it’s cycling back down to 143lb a pound a week. I’m till hung up on the number for some reason

Did anybody stop short of their weight loss goals because they realized they liked their body at a higher weight?

@wedemars My Goal weight was 125lb. I am 5'3". I am currently at 145lb and honestly I am okay with where I am. Sure, I would love to lose maybe another 5-10lb; but I don't think I would want to lose more than that.

Scared to start exercising/tactics to start exercising

@theknightlight Your self reflection and goals are extremely impressive to me! I'm so sorry you had such a shorty PE teacher. If you feel comfortable, feel free to DM me. I would love to send you something to get a pair of good/new shoes or workout clothes as you start adding more movement in...

How do you bounce back to fitness after a bad mental health day/week/month/year?

@christineleex3 I just feel this. So I definitely started to slack this year. I spiraled. I had a miscarriage, then covid, my pup had an emergency and almost died, and then earlier this week I was rear ended at a crosswalk (thankfully my kids are okay and cars can be replaced). I have no...

Fit/active women of Reddit, what’s your weekly exercise routine like?

@acco340 First, I am a big advocate of slow and steady and habit tracking. Take 2 changes and try to fit them into your schedule and when they become habits, add another 2 on. Stack them with things you already do. Get your body used to the work and as you progress stack them. The below...

How getting fit has changed your life

@hlb Physically: strength, endurance, capability, flexibility, and balance. The obvious aesthetic changes to my body as well. Mentally and emotionally: I find I am more patient and relaxed. My stress comes out as I work out and I tend to just take a breathe and gather myself before I...
