[Spreadsheet] The Best Vegan Protein Bars: I bought and tested 20 highly recommended or rated bars over the last month or so to find the best ones

@bondo This is great work but perhaps I can be a bit constructive (desructive?). Let's look at No Cow and Builder bars. No Cows are $2.50 per 20 gram bar while Builders are $1.50 per 20 gram bar. This means that No Cow bars are 66% more expensive for the same amount of protein and yet they...

@rrcoffin Wow that's cheap wheat gluten. Nice find!

Best way to get your Omega 3 6 9

@classictvshowsfan You already get plenty of o-6 from your diet and o-9 isn't essential. For o-3, if you want a plant form then flax/chia/hemp are your best bets. The oil enables you to take a much higher dose (1 tbsp of oil is many pills) but it also goes bad fairly fast so you have to store...

High protein shake for under 600 calories

@dawn16 High protein intake does not damage kidney function. No, there is no theoretical limit to how much protein can be absorbed, only how much can be utilized for muscle building (excess protein will be burned for energy). The current estimate of protein utilization for muscle building...

[25 F - Looking for help jumping back into WFPB diet and exercise routine] HELP CALCULATING PROTEIN AMOUNT! :D

@evilbeans I am fine with 1.6 g/kg LBM but your second statement is not accurate. We have quite a bit of research showing benefits beyond that and there is no evidence that high protein diets are detrimental to healthy kidneys.

High protein shake for under 600 calories

@cbraden816 Ohhh is it recipe time? Here is one of my common high-protein breakfast smoothies. 30 g rice protein + 30 g Plant Fusion (cookies and cream flavor) 1 cup unsweetened soy milk 1 medium banana 100 g blueberries 1 Brazil nut 2 tbsp chia seeds 2 tbsp cacao powder 8 oz spinach...

Has anyone gotten really nerdy about their protein powder blends?

@416ae6e2 If I was really concerned, I would pick a pea+rice blend that leveled the lysine/methionine playing field so that both AAs were in an optimal proportion. Then I would see how much leucine was in a desired serving size and add additional leucine powder to hit ~3 grams of leucine per...

Anything to change about diet based on blood screen results?

@wrench Looks good to me. What amount of D are you planning on supplementing with? You are barely below the cutoff so I would shoot for 1000 or maybe 2000, but certainly not more than that. Then get re-tested in six months and see where you sit. Also take your D with a source of fat to help...

    Vegetarian - meeting protein targets

@ba66e77 Vegans tend to understate protein needs while gym bros tend to overstate protein needs. As with most things in life, the truth is somewhere in the middle. I think you would do just fine on 1.6 g/kg. Some people get away with much less even, so you just have to experiment for yourself...

    Vegetarian - meeting protein targets

@ba66e77 A systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression of the effect of protein supplementation on resistance training-induced gains in muscle mass and strength in healthy adults Even if you want to shoot a bit higher to give yourself an extra buffer, I can't see going past 1.8...

@dawn16 .64 g/lb of total body weight is the highest recorded beneficial dose.

Blood work after 9 months WFPB

@areli Nice! Not nice. Nice! That should be plenty so at this point I would just wait until your next 6 month test and see what that result is.

Blood work after 9 months WFPB

@areli Do you track your iron intake? Keep in mind that the iron RDA for veg*ns is 1.8x the regular RDA (14.4 mg/day instead of 8 mg/day for men). Are you in the US? That would be quite an expensive set of tests here so I'm jealous!
