West Coast Classic Live Semi-Final Day Two Discussion Thread

@st333333 This is an iteresting question which can never really be answered. If a coach gets already good athletes, then no credit is given. But if a coach works with an unacomplished athlete who becomes good, you could easily argue that that athlete would have become good without a coach or...

Emma Gardner not going to college to train at CompTrain

@mauckbaker I do know his channel but it's a bit irrelevant to me so I usually skip it. I didn't know he does interviews. So he had Emma on?

Vellner not holding back on Event 6/7 programming

@anonymous258 Yepp. It also pretty much confirms that almost all of them got the shits from the lake.

Latest move by Berkshire CutFit (franchising models survey)

@giftsigns As I said in the second part, I also believe that BP want as much profit as fast as possible, that's their duty. And that also means that their priority in every decision is just that.

    23.1 women’s barbells misloaded

@straitlacedanglican See my other comments. I was not precise: technically they are not a real sport governing organization (i.e. no other recognized sport organization will recognize them). The fate of the profit what makes the difference. There IS a difference bw for-profit and non-profit...

"A new era in CrossFit Games rankings has begun"

@leonsoekjesus I have zero info on that, but there's a chance that big media entities/experts did not want to participate in an initiative by some other entity. I certainly would like to have Friend and someone from Talking Elite Fitness included, plus more non US personalities.

@simons What are you talking about? Coop who?

Latest move by Berkshire CutFit (franchising models survey)

@giftsigns If we assume there's a 10x multiplier they would want a 20+ M EBIDTA or net profit to be able to sell the company for more. Plus a nice story about the 'trajectory of growth'. But of course independent of all this I would think that Berkshire wants to increase profits any way and...

    23.1 women’s barbells misloaded

@quitesmoking123 Exactly, on both points. It is strange, but basically it was the creators choice and intent to keep this as a for-profit business, which is also normal.

@giftsigns I agree. We know they sale price: 200 million USD, Glassman has just confirmed it on the Mark Bell podcast a couple of weeks ago again.

Rogue Invitational qualy rule: weigh plates and bars (T. Mayer DQ'd)

UPDATE: Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest in the title that Mayer cheated! And the problem comes up again: some people use fake weights! It's also another aspect CF HQ doesn't care about during online events.

    23.1 women’s barbells misloaded

@quitesmoking123 It is pretty straightforward. At a basic level anything can be a sport it you do it like that (e.g. there are competitions), but any organization is not a real sport governing body that has no outside recognition from other proper organizations, which is important for example to...

"Another Banned Athlete Competes at Non-licensed Competition"

https://morningchalkup.com/2021/10/13/another-banned-athlete-competes-at-local-comp-without-event-directors-knowledge Big up to her to at least use Stanozolol! :D A nice twist to this whole saga...

2022 NoBull CrossFit Games IE11: The Alpaca

@dawn16 Yeah, you can hear more and more athletes admit that they hate it (any cheering by other athletes) and it's a sign that CF is still an immature sport.

Latest move by Berkshire CutFit (franchising models survey)

@dawn16 I appreciate your analysis, I did read the whole thing. You write "affiliate" and franchise. No, it's affiliate. CF had a founder/sole owner and he wanted it this way. He made a lot of money personally (if he was not asleep at the wheel in terms of Games spendig a lot of the time, he...

    23.1 women’s barbells misloaded

@quitesmoking123 Technically they are not even a sport. They are a for-profit company with the core value of trying to get away with the minimum.

Latest move by Berkshire CutFit (franchising models survey)

@caleb_m What's interesting is that Berkshire seems to have switched to getting more from existing affiliates instead of trying to create more affiliates globally. I guess they realize that that is hard if not impossible. If it has not happened 20 years into the game, and 3 years into owning it...

Northern Spirit named title sponsor for semi finals + CF games for masters/teenage/adaptive divisions

@rob3rt These news items are a bit without context until we know the prize purses and the level of broadcast quality for these competitions. Because I'd not be surprised if CF had to 'give away' these deals for low amounts which will reflect in the prize purses.

Latest move by Berkshire CutFit (franchising models survey)

@caleb_m That could be true, but would that (better average quality, but more licensing fees) really make it a better business especially at the level of a specific box?
