40M looking for help on next steps

@o0oshadow If you’re receiving treatment for your condition, fatigue and mood swings are possible side effects. Perhaps your doctor has a nutritionist in their practice or can at least provide a referral to a nutritionist to help take some of that stress off of you. A tailored data-based...

    Loose hide

@estherann Other than surgery, trading fat for more muscle is the way. But skin loses elasticity as we age, and muscle is also harder to build. You could also just be proud of the body you do have and the fact that you’re in better shape than your peers!

Need help with health and lifestyle intervention for my 70 y.o. mother

@shyhelpless My father was having mild chest pain for 2-3 days and refused his wife’s pleas to go to the hospital. Finally, she threatened to have me intervene if he didn’t go to the ER, so he went. They did heart cath and discovered 99% blockage at the widow maker artery. In other words, he...

    Pull Up Advice

@storiesfly I would recommend doing it every other day if you want to see some progress. One pull-up session every 7-10 days is far too casual. Be sure to follow up each session with post workout nutrition!

Update: felt like shit, went to doctor. Not dying

@boss121 Haha wow maybe you need to find a better doctor. Good on you for trying to be proactive about your health. Don’t let the disinterest of your doctor deter you from getting annual checkups.

Update: felt like shit, went to doctor. Not dying

@grace_mercy Thanks for sharing your experience. I think annual physicals with lab work are important as we age in order to see changes in health that may need to be addressed, especially if you have family history of health problems.

When I run on the treadmill I am dying after just half a mile. How can I make myself go longer?

@thisisme123 6.2 is a pretty brisk pace. You should try 4.5-5 and work your way up. The first half mile is also that period where a runner is finding their rhythm, so it’s always a little uncomfortable. Once you break through and hit your stride, you feel like you can go for miles. If you’re...

    Help w Weightlifting

@jasonavery08 Do you do any snacking between meals? If you get 40g protein in per meal and snack session, you can get to 200g pretty easily. I like to drink fairlife protein drinks when I need a lactose-free protein boost!

    Took a Dexa Scan before resuming gym [M35 / 96 Kgs / 6'1 ft - 30% body fat, overweight]

@jake99901 Bi-weekly dexa scans and bloodwork might be considered a bit obsessive and could be counterproductive. I’m sure it makes sense to you right now, but seeing your data occasionally plateau or reverse trend (it will happen) can be very demotivating. Maybe consider quarterly checkups...

Just had surgery, can’t lift for 6-8 weeks

@logann Post-op recovery is important. You might lose a little ground, but you’ll be able to bounce back once you’re done healing.

I’m stuck on my average run time and I don’t know what to do

@hightechredneck Unless you’re training for a race, you shouldn’t be too concerned about your pace. It’s really great that you’re out running at all, and 10:25 is a respectable pace. As your cardiovascular fitness improves, your pace might also improve, so just give it some time and don’t try...
