The Giant: singles and doubles differences?

@meeksoul Double clean is awesome! During my runs of The Giant I've started following up with barbell work. At some point during 1.1 with 28s I started setting new barbell press PRs, despite already being fatigued from C&P.

    Question from a russian dude

@sk213 Hah, I'm a different guy to the one above :) And this was just some random tidbits I've picked up, God knows where. The Sandow bit was just that I knew kettlebells used to be extremely popular in Europe, and it'd make sense for Sandow to have used them, so I thought I'd do a quick search.

    KB or r/bodyweight RR

@leovvv Why not both? Do a kb program, and combine it with the RR progression for pullups and rows.

Would you consider 6-8kg to heavy for a 12yr old boy?

@rabbie77 It's awesome that he just jumps into it unprompted. Kids will pick up good habits given the right inspiration.

The Giant: singles and doubles differences?

@meeksoul I bought The Giant as a standalone, and it recommends doubles. For your pressing muscles both are probably fine, but for the cleans doubles are absolutely superior.

Help me understand low RPEs in kettlebell programming

@artlicbunny Minor correction, that's percentage of 1RM. RPE is a numerical scale, not a percentage scale. Exactly. You get to do more total volume. Your 3x8 isn't going to be replaced by 6x4, but more likely 7x4, or maybe even up to 10x4. On a sliding scale of...

    Question from a russian dude

@sk213 Eugen Sandow published his "Sandow's System of Physical training" in 1894, which apparently features instructions on the "swing ring-and-ball lift from the ground overhead", aka the snatch. He'd step forward to catch the kb, sort of like the old school split snatch. One fun note is that...

    1x12kg Jerk; 20mins; 130 reps

@jim_68 Hell yeah! That's a lot of time spent with the bell pushing down on you. Good luck with the program! My grip was definitely challenged pushing 8 RPM for 1'30. 2' on/off tonight may be a challenge - we'll see how much my technique has improved in the meanwhile.

    How to track progress?

@ivymeow It's not that it has no value as a metric, but it can't stand on its own. Just accumulating tonnage can have a lot of value in terms of building work capacity, but it makes a lot of sense to periodise it and switch to more reps per set or heavier weight. Different qualities can feed...

    How to track progress?

@ivymeow Just looking at total tonnage moved can be fun, but doesn't tell the full story. For example, let's say I do a workout with 10x1 barbell press at 75kg, 10x5 swings with double 32s, and a total of 25 chinups with +30kg Alternatively, I could do 10x3 press with 65kg, 500 total swings...

Progressing from double 16s to 24s for C+P

@sweetcherryblossom Going straight from double 16s to double 24s is a huge jump. The Giant is great, but the 16s may be a bit too light for you. A 15RM would let you get more volume, which is great and would build a lot of work capacity, but I'm not sure how much it would carry over to the...

I’m very confused as to where to start keeping my football(soccer) practice in mind. What do you guys recommend?

@cleloup85 A bigger muscle is a stronger muscle. Especially for beginners there's very little difference between getting bigger and getting stronger. Some people are really enamoured with Turkish getups, but I really don't get the hype. For kettlebells, the best bang for your buck comes from...

Dan John's issue with dual snatches???

@wryetui Yeah, seeking permission to do something they've advised against multiple times would annoy most people.

    24kg or double 12s

@dmk741 You'll outgrow the 12s pretty quickly. Doubles are generally better than singles because they let you use more total weight. My suggestion is an adjustable competition bell. If that's not an option, either a 24 or another 16 are the next best options.

    Does Anyone Know The Program??

@spokums Knowing aks, it was probably a joke. Lots of people get upset about minor form deviations (to the extent that they'll even poo-poo world record breaking lifts). "Deload to the bar and work on form" for powerlifting and "deload to a shoe" for TGUs used to be way too common advice.

    2024 Goals - Seeking Advice

@fionar Some extra weight loss will definitely help for goals 4 and 5. How doable the pullups are depends on how far your shoulder is from recovering, and how many you can do at that point. In the meantime, do whatever back work you can, and as much of it as possible - it will transfer...

    Struggling with progress/gains

@roseprince Steal away! It was basically me doing The Giant, having fun with it, and then wondering what would happen if I started doing it for front squats too... and then for double snatches... and the last 3-4 weeks I added other exercises as supersets. I'm definitely going to run it again...

I need some suggestions on important stretches before kettlebell workouts. I’m a beginner

@curty From what I remember, static stretches don't reduce performance unless you do them hard or sit in them for a long time. But yeah, they don't really prepare you for the exercises, unless you're stretching to work on a specific mobility restriction.

    Struggling with progress/gains

@mattellis So you don't feel like you're gaining muscle. Are you gaining weight to begin with? Are you eating to grow? Your plan looks decent - my only worry is that you'd be dropping the frequency for C&P a lot. You could modify it to have The Giant every workout, followed by: A: Chinups...
