3 hours too much for full body weightlifting 3 days/week?

@godisworking101 5/3/1 for beginners is probably a more effective workout, and is meant to be completed in about 50 minutes or so. It's also meant to be done primarily with a barbell, weights, and a rack, and not much else. If you have 3 hours out of your day, 3x a week, to train, you can spend...

Anyone here have success with growing their legs (quads, hamstrings, glutes, calves) that weren’t already naturally big?

@xcept68 On supersquats? Only 3. But you're suppose to start with about 60% of your max, and eventually work up to your 10 rep max for sets of 20. On what I'm currently doing? I do one set of 20 per week, along with 5 more "normal" sets.

Anyone here have success with growing their legs (quads, hamstrings, glutes, calves) that weren’t already naturally big?

@xcept68 I had chicken legs until I started working out. Went from 145 and skinny fat to 195 and relatively lean. I would second the recommendation to try something like Supersquats (20 rep squats). I find that my body responds really well to higher reps. Plus, the mental fortitude and ability...

41/M. I want to be able to play with and lift grandkids one day. I’m looking for suggestions on dumbbell only functional/compound training

@bridgida Do you have access to a gym? If so, you can do the basic beginner routine or gzclp for your lifting. If not, I'd suggest the recommended routine from r/bodyweightfitness For cardio, C25k is designed to get people from the couch up to a 5k jog and can be done 2-3x a week. For yoga...

41/M. I want to be able to play with and lift grandkids one day. I’m looking for suggestions on dumbbell only functional/compound training

@bridgida What you're looking for comes in three parts. Strengthening your muscles, tendons, and ligaments, having the flexibility to do a variety of movement patterns, and being in good enough cardiovascular shape. Training through a full range of motion in your movements will help with the 1...

DEXA says I'm obese - 36% body fat - thoughts?

@aijeleth24 Except it's not really. BMI often under-represents how much fat people are holding onto, and a lot of "normal weight" people are "obese" by bodyfat standards. This is especially true if you're coming off years/decades of being sedentary.

I’m starting my workout journey. I’m a 6’3”, 230lbs male. I’d like to slim down to around 200lbs with muscle. Any tips?

@honeysuckledreams You shouldn't need to. At your height and weight, you realistically only need around 180g of protein a day. That should be easily achievable with a diet rich in protein. You should be doing a combination of resistance training and cardio. Resistance training for the...

Folks who workout twice a day, what does your life look like on a daily basis?

@heegar On days where I work from home (twice a week) I throw in a quick 30 minute easy run during my lunch break. And then I lift after work. It let's me squeeze in an extra 2 running sessions a week. So it'll generally look like: M - lunch run, lift Tu - tempo run W - lunch run, lift Th...

How is my metabolism getting worse?

@lazarus_come_forth How exactly did you measure VO2 max? Was this done on a treadmill with a respirator, while they measured your breathing, heart rate, and oxygen consumption? Or just something like a smartwatch and/or chart? Because I can tell you right now, there really isn't a proper way to...

    My f*****g brain hurts!!

@rein_29 Most people do not get physically active enough to a point where eating back calories becomes a good idea. Even for myself, the only time I eat a little bit extra when I'm on a deficit is before my longer (10+mile) runs. And that's generally because I find having carbs prior to a long...

    What’s your workout schedule/routine?

@rorypond Simple Jack'd, 4x a week, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Running, 4x a week: Easy runs Monday and Tuesday, Tempo run every other Thurs, long run Saturday. It's easy because I have a home gym. Other than my long runs, my workout are all about 45-60 minutes or so. The monday easy...
