from 8 pull ups to 20 and also from 10 dips to 35 in 6 weeks

@dawn16 To be honest, I'm not sure. I know what the prevailing wisdom is among exercise buffs: train with resistance that would induce failure at different rep ranges to target the three distinct types of adaptation Strength: ~8 to 10 Hypertrophy: ~12 to 20 Muscular endurance: 25+ I don't...

from 8 pull ups to 20 and also from 10 dips to 35 in 6 weeks

@sps3rvn Found this video on "volume" and thought you might appreciate it. Pretty much "wall of text" stuff but the Ph.D. dude is smart and Jeff strikes me as an earnest interlocutor at all times!

from 8 pull ups to 20 and also from 10 dips to 35 in 6 weeks

@sps3rvn Hmm, you are right it does say 3 sets for RR. I must have brought in the 5 sets notion from some other source. Cool! I guess next week will be a bit more intense and low volume :) Good to mix up the periodization; that much is a widely accepted principle I think. Thanks for the heads up!

from 8 pull ups to 20 and also from 10 dips to 35 in 6 weeks

@sps3rvn My recollection was that the RR documentation specifies 3 to 5 sets, and it seems to be a widespread recommendation, no?

from 8 pull ups to 20 and also from 10 dips to 35 in 6 weeks

@dawn16 In my experience: RR is a great routine. I think it is excellent for beginners who need structure to get going, and it is also great for intermediates/advanced who need structure on which to build more advanced routines. It is great in exposing a large fraction of the anatomy to...

from 8 pull ups to 20 and also from 10 dips to 35 in 6 weeks

@roccy The important points: 1. Pick one or at most two exercises and if two, only ones which do not substantiall overlap in the main muscle groups involved. Squats and pull-ups would be ideal. Pull-ups and dips is not ideal but still okay I think. Bench press and pushups would be just about...

from 8 pull ups to 20 and also from 10 dips to 35 in 6 weeks

@eviemarie I remember seeing the creator (Pavel Tsatsouline) say that the term "greasing the groove" refers to the ostensible mechanism by which the routine facilitates rapid performance increases: changes to voluntary neurons, making them faster, more concerted, and effective at engaging...

from 8 pull ups to 20 and also from 10 dips to 35 in 6 weeks

@pittsburgh14 I've been doing "Greasing the Groove" on my pull ups and dips for about a week. Seems to me these "fighter programs" are largely inspired by the general philosophy of greasing the groove. My max reps on both of those two exercises without any assistance and with what I consider to...
