@imrussell50 Thanks! I had a free session with a trainer at my gym and she was really helpful when I first started out. I'll definitely be seeing if she's free again after the summer holidays.

@toliver Thanks! If I hadn't taken photos I would not have realized things had visibly changed.

Can I achieve a better aesthetic with body weight exercises only?

@inneed87 Yes, same here lol! My PT exercises form part of my bodyweight routine, and they are really effective.

I’m so burned out of calorie counting. Has anyone had success with taking a break?

@lmg633 Yeah, I went out to the movies the other day, and even though I'd budgeted for candy and a pre-movie drink, I ended up sharing a popcorn and forgot to see how much my candy mix weighed before I started digging in. I thought about blowing off the calorie count for the day, but instead...

@inneed87 I really appreciate your encouraging words. It's hard to get out of the mindset of needing to see the scale move. But I like how strong I feel, and that I'm not feeling hungry or deprived.

Can I achieve a better aesthetic with body weight exercises only?

@inneed87 I'm seeing a physical therapist about an old knee problem, and he said that varying your workouts is really good for your body. That helps me to not feel discouraged about my relatively slow progress with my lifts. The plus side of getting older, is that doing any kind of workout...

I’m so burned out of calorie counting. Has anyone had success with taking a break?

@slant I take a break by just looking for a closer approximate in the app, and rounding up. If you really want to take a break, I don't think a short break will make a huge difference. You may end up gaining a little, but nothing that can't be course-corrected.

Can I achieve a better aesthetic with body weight exercises only?

@inneed87 Thanks! I spent 5 weeks logging the tdee spreadsheet religiously, and could not believe I was losing weight (albeit incrementally) at ~1550 calories. It was so eye-opening and really relieved a ton of stress and misconceptions I had about diet. As for my typical week, it varies...

@inneed87 That's fantastic. Definitely hoping to lower my bodyfat % going forward.

Can I achieve a better aesthetic with body weight exercises only?

@tianguis I'm shorter than you, but my body composition was similar when I first started working out and fixing my diet: slim and at a healthy weight, but I still carried extra weight mostly in my belly and it's been stubborn since having kids. But I made a lot of progress and I'm really happy...

Slow but successful recomp progress! F/40/5'0" [51.5>51kg] 7 months

@inneed87 Do you mean that having a high body fat % means you have a lower tdee? According to the tdee spreadsheet, based on my measurements my bodyfat percentage is about 27%, which seems high.

Slow but successful recomp progress! F/40/5'0" [51.5>51kg] 7 months

@inneed87 That's so nice that your calories are that high! I might be more sedentary between work outs, which would account for the difference. I could be eating more during lift days, but when I was tracking (before and during using the spreadsheet) my weight definitely started creeping up if I...

Slow but successful recomp progress! F/40/5'0" [51.5>51kg] 7 months

@anniebug Thanks! I also did bodyweight fitness for a year when my son was a baby and I didn't have access to a gym. The recommended routine at r/bodyweightfitness gave me really great results even at 2x a week.

    @pajamasam777 My lift progress isn't really impressive, lol. I know I'm not pushing myself as hard as I could, so that's next up for me. Squat: 15kg -> 37kg Deadlift: 25kg -> 50kg Bench: 15kg -> 30kg OHP: 15kg -> 26kg

@relate4ever You think I have a flat tummy?! Woo-hoo, thank you!! My original goal was 105-108 because that's how much I weighed for years pre-kids. I got down to 108 after weaning my 1st, but that was mainly through diet, so I was hungry all the time and my face looked a little drawn. In my...

@relate4ever Thank you for the kind words! It was a really nice revelation that my body could change for the better without weight loss or a huge calorie deficit.
