Reminder: it's very hard to get adequate nutrition on a high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet

@vdamir I think people have different definitions of “high carb”, but the one I’m familiar with is at least 70% of calories from carbs. A couple of the meal plans are above 60%, so they’re close to that. Most of them are closer to 55%, which I would call moderate. They all have what I would...

Reminder: it's very hard to get adequate nutrition on a high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet

@digitalgoth What is the source of your statement that we only need 13.5 g fat on a 2000-cal diet? WHO bases their recommendations on the best available evidence from the latest nutrition research. I’m curious to know what kinds of sources you find reputable if that doesn’t count. And of course...

Reminder: it's very hard to get adequate nutrition on a high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet

@digitalgoth Yes, many fruits and vegetables have good 3:6 ratios, but that's almost meaningless because the amount of fat present is miniscule. There's only 0.4 g total fat and 21 mg omega-3 in 100 g of raw broccoli. Even if you ate 400 grams (almost 6 cups) of broccoli, you'd still be getting...

Reminder: it's very hard to get adequate nutrition on a high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet

@monte And then 9 months later they make a YouTube video about how veganism is actually unhealthy because they became anemic and lost 82 pounds eating only lettuce and bananas. That's why they're switching to the carnivore diet.

Reminder: it's very hard to get adequate nutrition on a high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet

@boosted Chia seeds are a great source of omega-3 FA's. Veganhealth.org has a good chart showing the amounts in servings of different foods, along with the recommended amounts for different kinds of people.

Reminder: it's very hard to get adequate nutrition on a high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet

@boosted I'm not sure what your question is. It's likely that you're getting enough protein on a high-protein diet. It's possible you're not getting enough omega-3 fatty acids on a low-fat diet. But if a good portion of your fats come from soy, flax, etc., it's probably fine. I would use...

Reminder: it's very hard to get adequate nutrition on a high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet

@keithfin007 Meat tastes good to me. Meat is terrible for animals and the environment. Fake meat satisfies my desire for the flavor and texture of meat in a way that is in line with my ethics. Fake meat has made it much easier to remain a vegan for 25 years.

Reminder: it's very hard to get adequate nutrition on a high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet

@coffeedrinker I'm a huge fan of fake meats, Just Egg, and all that shit. But I understand it's not for everyone, and some people just like to eat beans and lentils. I can't even imagine a vegan diet without fake meat OR legumes.

Reminder: it's very hard to get adequate nutrition on a high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet

This is inspired by a recent post from a person who is eating a mostly raw, high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet. It was deleted by the mods, but it got a good amount of attention. This is a subreddit for vegan fitness enthusiasts, and we should be basing our actions on the best available...
