If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@nooneimportant Yes! I attended their weight classes regularly for 3 months, and still follow their recommended nutrition. As I understand, protein (and D3 and K2) assist with the absorption of calcium, which we need 1000–1200 mg of daily. I aim for about 1 gram of protein per my body weight in...

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@hopeiseverywhere Thank you! Never heard of this (of course) and will check right into it. Interesting. Where do you go for a “metabolic panel”? (I’ll Google it, just curious where you went to find all this out and get tested.)

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@itsmeisla Yes, I’ve always gotten regular periods. At 120lbs, the DXA scan put my body fat at 24%.

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@acsc Definitely no shortage of options. I just now googled “Dexa near me” and five separate places came up within a 10-minute drive. Additionally, QLD XRay alone has 25 locations in Brisbane.

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@princess47110 Regardless of your age, you can take action to improve your situation. (I’m now powerlifting 2x a week and being careful to ingest 1,200mg of calcium per day.)

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@princess47110 Thank you for sharing!! Prime example of why I wish DXA scans at ages 25 and 30 were commonplace. Props to you for being proactive, even when it was expensive.

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@pablito_77 No, I pretty much eat everything, but try to stay between 1200–1500 calories. (Because if not, I gain.) As for her, she’s been on Adderall for quite a while, and a close friend of ours thinks that’s what’s happened with her.

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@3rdday Ok, I bumped you back up to 0. Would be funny if you changed “reallyyy hate” to “tend to not prefer” and then got a normal amount of upvotes. Lol.

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@3rdday I’ve got a colonoscopy scheduled mid-March (that’s the soonest) to hopefully rule out Celiac. If I also have it, that would definitely be the culprit!

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@marioochi Every little thing you do will help. We’re in such an amazing age of information now; unlike previous generations when you’d first find out about your osteoporosis when your hip breaks. Any effort you put in (calcium supplement, just 5 deadlifts a day – research correct form, will...

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@goodtree Not in words, no. The technician had to basically “interpret” the data. Here is my “for fun” Dexa scan from last September. To me, it looks very close to gibberish. (If anything, I’d think my levels were fine judging from this.) However, the tech was like “um, your bone density is low...

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@laughter I’m sorry I don’t have a simple answer. They test different bones (each femur, and L1–4 of the spine, and others) and you’ve got a t-score and a z-score for each. The lower the score, the worse you are. My Ls are pretty bad; here is the bottom of 1 of the 3 pages, just to give you an...

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@nevisummers Amazing! Just the kind of info I was after. Thank you! (I didn’t mention sleep in my post, but I absolutely sleep like the dead for 7–8 hours a night. So thankful for that.)

@bepbepsc07 Vitamin K2 wasn’t on my radar, but I’ll ask the dietician at the bone clinic. Thank you!

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@knowthespirit Great to hear! Yeah, my 2nd scan results (from QLD X-ray) said at the bottom: “A follow up study in 2-5 years is suggested.” Why, so I can see how much MORE density I’ve lost at that point?! My GP claims I’m ineligible for the “care plan” where Medicare would reimburse a portion...

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@knowthespirit Yes! Yes! Yes! I took my first beginner class this morning! (That’s actually the “bone clinic” I referred to above. Really impressed with them.) Looking around at the other women in the class and noticing how they were all short and on the smaller side, is what inspired this post!

@maglor Please do it now. You have so much power in your mid-20s. You can actually BUILD your bones for a few years. I’m jealous.

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@meteorstorm What you said makes perfect sense. However (something like) cervical cancer is extremely rare in someone in her 20s, yet the guideline was a Pap smear / cervical screening every 3 years back then. Not to mention a pap is a much bigger hassle than a DXA scan. Granted, cervical cancer...

If you’re short and skinny (at all), and in your 20s, 30s, or 40s get your bone density checked NOW

@daniel1960 Thank you. I mentioned occasional fasts to the dietician at the bone clinic, and she was pretty confident that my three 72-hour fasts over the the past 5 years, and my one 5-day fast in 2019 would not have has an effect on my bone mineral density. Bones build and deteriorate MUCH...
