teen girl intimidated by mostly-male strength training class

@jrsinct I can guarantee you they are constantly preoccupied with comparing themselves to other males and pay no thought to you

[CONVERSATION] Creating a community workout music playlist!

@pheremone This one is kind of a combination of rock/metal/electronica, but I'll put it in this category: Two Steps From Hell - Archangel

FML: Heavy lifting made me look like I was in liver failure

@halifax24 Interesting, I train fairly hard and last year when I had a needlestick injury from someone with Hep C, I had my LFTs tested twice - they were always well within normal range. Mind you, that was during my usual routine, it's not like I had tripled my regular workouts the day before.

3.5 months in our local box. New to this sub. 26/f. Any ladies in this sub?

@p1saint2 28/f, started almost two years ago. Took a few months off here and there, I'd say I've been doing it seriously close to 1.5 years. Didn't lose any weight, but I wasn't overweight when I started - 5'5" and 140 with a large frame. I'm now in the low 150s, almost all of the extra weight...

3.5 months in our local box. New to this sub. 26/f. Any ladies in this sub?

@p1saint2 Haha, that was one of my first WODs, too. I came in having had experience in competitive boxing and having done a few months of bootcamp-style workouts right before I joined, so I certainly wasn't expecting to feel like I was gonna die.

My first DEXA scan results with photos! [28F/5'2''/108 lbs/27.3% body fat]

@amydoodles Wow, I can't believe you're 27%. I would've pegged you in the low 20s (20-22). It fascinates me how different the same bodyfat % looks on different people. 27% is usually pretty overfat.

Dexa scan results for me, a 5'6", 183 lb 35-year-old weightlifter. Spoilers: 39.1% body fat

@jamestucker I booked a bod pod for next week! It's closer to me and cheaper than a dexa scan, actually, and I've heard it's more accurate, anyway. Looking forward to getting an idea of where I'm at. $50 is not the end of the world. I want to get an idea of how much fat I'd need to lose to get a...

Dexa scan results for me, a 5'6", 183 lb 35-year-old weightlifter. Spoilers: 39.1% body fat

@jamestucker Very interesting! I'm intrigued by how your results were very close to the reading you got from the Army tape test. I checked my measurements with that tape test and it said my bodyfat is 26%. I have a hard time believing that. Maybe in my lower body I'm 26% fat, but certainly not...

Here’s body fat percentage results for someone who has never worked out

@yourservant Interesting, I kind of figured 30-35% would be the case for a woman who has never worked out, so this is in keeping with that.

[CONVERSATION] New research says athletes who are cutting should consume ~1.8-2.7 g per kg a day to maintain fat-free mass

    @%CE%A3%CE%B1%CE%BC%CE%BF%CF%85%CE%AE%CE%BB Yeah, seriously....1:1 is nothing. I weigh 68 kg, that's a measly 68 g protein a day!

Julia Vins reminded me that women don't have to be tiny (crosspost from TrollX)

@jb9 Eh, I think it totally is. I've bulked up a shit ton from Crossfit, I'm sure if I dedicated myself to just lifting without all the metcons/cardio and did not think about controlling my weight for bodyweight exercises, I'd get huge like her. Some of us just have the genetics for putting on...

No A/C at gym- I feel crazy

@ericanicolee I don't feel good training in the heat. I can still do weights/yoga and such but not cardio. I do not tolerate heat well (a "vacation" to Florida is my idea of a nightmare), and I sweat insane amounts so if I were to exert myself in the heat, I have to drink electrolyte solution...

[PROGRESS] 3 months. 24/F/5'4'' - 125lbs to 115lbs. Mission: Destroy "Skinny Fat". Details inside

@ambsfuller Wow! Very nice! You are really not eating much, though. I'd add some protein to that lunch and some more food to that dinner. Otherwise, it'll be hard to maintain your progress. Source: have made the mistake of overly strict dieting myself, oh, a hundred times.

    [PROGRESS] - F/24/5'4" Arm progress - 0, 2, and 4 months of lifting heavy

@ruth777 Realistically, your progress will slow down a lot in the next few months, as you get past the n00b gains.

@ruth777 Wow, that's really good, especially for just 4 months!
