Anyone else struggling with a skill that seems impossible to learn?

@lurking419 I’m doing personal programming solely for BMUs 3-5 times a week. Entering week 8 (not counting all the previous coaching/programming) … really thought I’d get it by now.

Anyone else struggling with a skill that seems impossible to learn?

@ministrymama I answered this above. Yes I can kip my hips to the bar. I can do 8 strict pull-ups and 4-5 strict CTB. I’ve also done both strict movements weighted.

Anyone else struggling with a skill that seems impossible to learn?

@cute_bhatti2004 I walked 3-5 feet to the wall for a long time. Then one day someone challenged me to try them in a workout, and it clicked. I like to keep my hands in a narrow stacked position, and think about pulling my heels over my head. It’s basically a controlled fall across the floor.

Anyone else struggling with a skill that seems impossible to learn?

@girlintheclouds I can do 8 strict PUs, 4-5 strict CTB. The first strict rep is pretty fast! I tend to lose steam after the 3rd or 4th rep. Last time I tested bar dips I did 10. Ring dips much lower, 3-4. My 1RM pull-up is 25#, but I think I could do heavier now with all the strength programming...

Anyone else struggling with a skill that seems impossible to learn?

@biblicalselfdefense I do them in a really odd way. I do a strict pull-up, bend my knees, and then do a quick kip with my hips to get my thighs over the bar. Ugly but it works!

Anyone else struggling with a skill that seems impossible to learn?

@lewlew222 Thanks. This is totally where I am. In my mind I foresee it feeling effortless. But then I go to do one and it seems impossible!! Maybe I will try to just focus on the drills for a while.

Anyone else struggling with a skill that seems impossible to learn?

@kaitlynturner That’s awesome! I feel very comfortable up there … it’s getting there that is the problem! Taking time to just focus on the exercises is a good idea. Although I did do one 6-week program where the only time I attempted a BMU was the last week. So by the time I tested myself and...

Anyone else struggling with a skill that seems impossible to learn?

@chrissy34 Thanks! My coach actually suggested we try it last week. He’s got to be frustrated with me too 😂

Anyone else struggling with a skill that seems impossible to learn?

@discolee It took me a while to master DUs! What helped was switching to a heavier rope, which gave me feedback on the timing. I also did a clinic with Molly Metz — after that it wasn’t long until they became one of my stronger movements. Keep at it!

Anyone else struggling with a skill that seems impossible to learn?

For me, it is bar muscle-ups. On and off for several years, I’ve spent countless hours and hundreds of dollars on virtual programs, clinics, lessons, and personal programming, and for the life of me I cannot to this movement on my own. I have the strength and understanding of how it should be...
