Straight arm day once per week?

@bryangonz No, do you find they help?

Are there any exercise more brutal than the horse stance?

@graced1257 In my Kung fu days, most of the people in my school could hold it really long. My personal best was 40 minutes. Of course there might have been some technical differences to how we did it and how you are doing it, but it really does feel impossible at first but we had to do 5 minutes...

Straight arm day once per week?

@jermyn I was trying to abbreviate pike push up. I'm not at planche level yet!

Straight arm day once per week?

@jermyn Sounds great, thanks for the tip. By the way, was doing lean forward push ups, but switched to PPU when my wrists were hurting. I still do one single set of lean forward push ups at the end of most workouts.

Straight arm day once per week?

@jermyn Would you say I should give up the archer rows in favor of the arc rows or alternate? Rows are currently my only false grip practice. BTW, when I say archer pull ups, I'm following the advice you provide on mixed-grip chin ups, so thanks for that.

Straight arm day once per week?

I'm making good progress on the recommended routine. I'm working on archer pull ups & rows, ring dips and pike push ups. I also do the recommended 5x2 reps of skin the cat after warm up. At 40, I look better than probably ever, so thanks to everyone who contributes here. In general, I'm happy...

If there was an equivalent of the “Dead Hang” but for your hips instead of shoulders, what would it be?

@718 Back in my kung fu days we had a visiting teacher from Malaysia (Cantonese/southern style kung fu), who made us sit in the Horse stance for almost an hour. We were allowed to rest if it got too intense, but only in a full squat position which was also quite difficult for most of us. I...

Anyway, I'd say that being able to do more than 10 pullups and maybe 15 dips counts as much stronger than the average person. It took me about half a year to get there. To be visibly strong where people started to notice, that was maybe also a half year for T-shirt weather, but to look like...

@lilyroselee It depends on how you define strong. What would be your definition?

@deann0408 I do it during warm up, after wrist prehab

If there was an equivalent of the “Dead Hang” but for your hips instead of shoulders, what would it be?

@balabob Sitting in a full squat comfortably for as long as you want is great. Being able to get up and down from the floor without using your hands is good too.

@deann0408 Btw, another thing that helped me a lot was working on getting 3x1 minute handstand holds, chest to wall.

About diet and gaining muscle... I don't really measure my calories precisely, but I keep track of my weight and adjust my food according to whether I want to gain or lose. For losing weight, the easiest way for me is to do intermittent fasting (skip breakfast), avoid snacks and eat in...

@deann0408 Thanks 🙏👍 So you progressed your pike push ups only by elevating your feet higher? Or did you also get your hands up on high parallettes or two chairs in order to do deficit pike pushups and get a full range of motion? I'd try that because it makes the pike pushups much harder. When...

@veni Thanks! Bouldering experience will definitely make pulling exercises come quickly! The RR will absolutely be sufficient. You might not need the core triplet at the end. A lot of people skip it. I prefer to do some other stuff instead or skip it if I'm short on time.

@charlefdwylie Thanks! I'd definitely recommend the Recommended Routine from this sub and it is really easy and fun to follow using the free 8x3 app. Best of luck!

@simonaannie I know that effect can be really strong in some people, but my glucose has never spiked much with physical activity. My problem with running was that I would eat a banana before leaving, put some lemon juice and sugar in my running water and still my glucose would start to tank at...
