Weekly Question Thread - Week of 10/1/2018

@paparazi257 Well the open heart surgery (aortic valve repair) was done last Wednesday! I went to the gym today and walked for 60 minutes straight. I'm allowed to lift dumbbells/weights 10 lbs. and under for the next 12 weeks until my sternum heals and I'll have full clearance, which then...

Weekly Question Thread - Week of 10/1/2018

@paparazi257 Best cardio machine or form to build quads/hams/glutes/calves? I can't lift weights for 10 more weeks post-open heart surgery, but I'm allowed to do cardio. I'd like to try to maintain my leg strength and possibly build up some nice quad sweep. Incline walking on the treadmill...

[Critique] 5x/week Intermediate Bodybuilding Routine (based off of Eric Helm's eBook - Muscle and Strength Pyramid)

@andersonpeter Also, I wouldn't add much volume to it at the start unless that is what you are accustomed to.

[Critique] 5x/week Intermediate Bodybuilding Routine (based off of Eric Helm's eBook - Muscle and Strength Pyramid)

@andersonpeter Looks like the exact recommendations from the sample program plus some extra volume.

Would there be varying results in hypertrophy from the different intermediate routines like Lyle's GBR, Helms' U/L/U/L, Helms' L/U/L/P/P, etc

There are tons of great intermediate programs out there. It's overwhelming when selecting one to stick with for awhile. Would each program or routine yield different results or would the results largely be similar? This is assuming one is looking to train 4-5x per week. Intermediate programs...

Lower/Upper/Off/Lower/Push/Pull/Off program based off of Helms' template

@paparazi257 I was actually looking for some critique or input lol

Lower/Upper/Off/Lower/Push/Pull/Off program based off of Helms' template

I built this split off of Helms' intermediate template in his book along with several studies with volume recommendations from Schoenfeld, McDonald and Wernbom. Progression would be just simple double progression currently. Deloads every 4-6 weeks or so. I am in a surplus after a long time in...

    Help choosing between 4 (L/U 2x) and 5 (L/U/L/P/P) day programs

I'd consider myself a mid to upper intermediate lifter with ten years of lifting experience (3-4 years with non-garbage programs) I am having some difficulty choosing my next program that I will stick with until the end of the year, if not longer. I am torn between Lyle McDonald's Generic...

Those running PHUL, U/L/P/P/L etc. What are you favourite isolation exercises for arms?

@kennethe62 I switch every 6-8 weeks or so. Triceps: Some type of pushdown (usually rope or v-bar), and lying EZ bar triceps extensions or overhead rope extensions. Biceps: seated DB curl, preacher curl machine, one arm bayesian cable curl, straight bar cable curl are all some favorites.

Could this full body workout 4x per week work?

I did some research and digging. I'd like to attempt to create my own full body split hitting everything 4x per week. Would this be OK? 45-60 minutes of MISS/LISS on OFF days. (Alternate each workout) M: Heavy/Medium/Light T: Medium/Light/Heavy W: Off T: Light/Heavy/Medium F...
