The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@arist007 If you're losing weight, you're in a calorie deficit. Regardless of what you think your TDEE is and what you think your workout burned or what you ate. This is 8 years old but highly highly helpful; it'll calculate your true TDEE:

    high rise yoga pants recommendation?

@whitab I buy the yogipace leggings on Amazon. They come in various styles and lengths (I have them in 23" and 25"). I think some of the styles come with a tie waist, to help prevent them from rolling down. Mine don't have that feature but I can say that sizing down fixed the hitching/rolling...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@montana1056 Somewhere on r/loseit there's a link to a google sheet someone created that allows you to figure out your own personal TDEE. It works by calculating your daily weight gain/loss against your calories consumed. Over time it'll give you an accurate calculation of your TDEE. I've got a...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@butterfly2222 Should there also be a disclaimer about one just having less muscle mass? r/loseit folks with a lot to lose, in the obese category, naturally have muscle mass to schlep the excess weight around, so the CICO advice is appropriate. But on this sub we have many "skinny fat" types...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@jamsie My post was about cutting 150 calories out of your diet. A can of Coke is 150 calories. So you could replace that with a diet Coke, or just drink one less can of Coke (if you're like my husband who drinks a case of diet Coke each day).

"What is normal eating?" 5'1 43F 274.4>234.4=40lb lost

@joyinyah Okay try the chips for your first sheet pan meal! You can slice them thin or in wedges, doesn't matter. Follow the steps, preheat oven, line baking sheet for easy clean up, toss in a TBSP or so of olive oil, pepper salt, spread on that sheet pan. Potatoes may take longer so keep the...

Please help! Frustrated with myself concerning eating habits

@krae991 I'm 57 and over the decades I pretty much lost my sweet tooth. I may indulge in a 1/4 cup of ice cream once every few months. I didn't even eat the wedding cake at my kids' weddings. I just don't have a taste for it anymore. But, it was a process! I grew up eating sweets All The...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@jamsie Right, I don't touch the stuff myself. I'm just saying that if someone is drinking a lot of sugary soda, a very easy way to cut calories is to switch to the diet version.

"What is normal eating?" 5'1 43F 274.4>234.4=40lb lost

@joyinyah From what I understand, assuming you are cooking fresh non processed foods, you'll probably never add enough salt on your own to equal what is in processed or takeout or restaurant foods. AND salt makes everything taste better, so especially when you are on a journey to lose weight...

"What is normal eating?" 5'1 43F 274.4>234.4=40lb lost

@joyinyah I grew up in the 70s and though my mom has since become a fairly decent cook back then typical dinner was: a slab of meat encompassing half the plate (usually steak, my dad was from the midwest); a 1/4 of the plate was iceberg lettuce absolutely drenched in bottled dressing (my mom...

"What is normal eating?" 5'1 43F 274.4>234.4=40lb lost

@joyinyah Tomatoes are awesome! Here's what helps me: For breakfast make a smoothie with a banana, yogurt (I prefer whole milk for this), and a 1/2-cup of frozen berries. That's three servings right there! It is also all the fruit for the day though. For lunch have either a big salad with bed...

"What is normal eating?" 5'1 43F 274.4>234.4=40lb lost

@joyinyah 5'0 120 lbs and 57 years old. One thing you should know is that you do not and should not attempt to eat your goal weight's calories. That will just lead to frustration and hunger pangs as you will likely be cutting too far. Instead, just cut out some calories, no more than 500, from...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@butterfly2222 I'm 58 so I've been at this for many years. All of the above works for me, but as I've aged it's gotten harder because of muscle loss. So the other part of the equation is to lift weights. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn, your BMR is higher. When you diet...

Calorie deficit and gym 3-4 times a week and not losing weight?

@iamsuperb She's only been workout out about 3 months though. A week's break may not hurt (I usually take a short break every 3 months), but I wouldn't take off weeks, especially this early on while still building the good habits of exercising regularly. The water retention is intracellular...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@butterfly2222 Honestly it doesn't need to be so complicated. Just find a way to increase calories burned a bit each day, while cutting a bit of the calories you consume each day. Such as a walk that burns 100 calories, and shaving 150 calories off what you are already eating, for a 250 cal...

I went off track for FOUR DAYS and I gained 3 pounds. Just feeling really frustrated. 5’2” SW 125 GW 120 CW 126.6

@adriana28 I'm 57 so I've been on this train for decades. I've been fat, I've been fit, I've been skinny fat. At 5'0 and at my fittest ever (running marathons and strength training 5x a week), I weighed 127 lbs but wore two sizes smaller than I do now, at 120 lbs and working my way back to fit...

I went off track for FOUR DAYS and I gained 3 pounds. Just feeling really frustrated. 5’2” SW 125 GW 120 CW 126.6

@adriana28 It can also be the sheer weight of the food still working its way through your digestive system, if you've eaten more in volume than typical on your 1200 calories (and 1200 is not enough calories, but that's another discussion). Sodium tends to be the culprit for me whenever I eat...

The TDEE calculator says I should be consuming 1230 cals a day to lose weight. I’m 26F 5’2” 125lb, is this sustainable or realistic?

@adriana28 No, it's not. The TDEE calculators are all brute force, they won't go below 1200 because no adult of whatever size can get enough nutrients below that calorie amount. The answer is not to go lower on the calories it is to up the exercise. Think about birds, they use a LOT of...

    It's not much, but...

I've dropped a cup size. I'm officially back in a C cup! I'm glad I saved my C cup bras, as bras are so expensive. I tucked them away a few years back when I had to acknowledge they weren't fitting properly and I needed to size up to a D. More recently, I'd been noticing I wasn't filling out...
