Genetics aren’t what you think they are

@nbj486 100% self fulfilling prophecy. It's really disturbing to see such a defeatist and weak mentality among so many younger lifters. I feel like a frickin boomer saying this, but I don't remember anyone ever talking about genetics when I started lifting. I don't know if maybe it's social...

Genetics aren’t what you think they are

@nbj486 It's so sad seeing all these kids making posts "do I have good genetics? Lifting for 6 months" it's the most defeatest, weak minded shit I can imagine. Barely been at it a yr and they're already looking for excuses to fail. It comes across as some kind of weird, eugenics Nazi shit too...

Why don't men hire health coaches as much as women?

@gm0nkx I think most men have a weird ego thing around the gym, especially men born before 2000. It's like there is this assumption that lifting weights is something men are just born knowing how to do properly, and any implication otherwise calls into question ones precious masculinity ...

Cutting advice for a humble idiot

@firofame This video may be helpful, Bromley is usually pretty simple, not overly dogmatic, and has reasonable/actionable advice.

    Prerequisites for barbell training?

@jlpick You can absolutely start out with barbells, and I would highly recommend doing so! There are no prerequisites. The r/fitness wiki has a ton of great info and programs, you would probably be best off reading through some of the info provided there and picking one of the free programs listed.

@marieb3 Dude judging by your post history, you are too old to be making up lies on the Internet for attention....be better

Most Trainees Lift Too Far Away From Failure (discussion)

@brock As someone that trains in a commercial gym, this seems incredibly accurate. The majority of people are barely scratching the surface when it comes to the effort component - the face is always a dead giveaway. 90% of people I see lifting in my gym have massage face. I almost never see...

    M, 6ft1, 185lbs, 2 years progress

@gtorre I've had very similar experiences with injuries. Just resting and then coming back never really seems to do anything for me. Just flares right back up when I start to add weight. Mine always end up needing some kind of actual treatment/rehab and a gradual progression to reestablish...

Anyone have their numbers of muscle to body fat % lost during cuts? How is it regaining lost muscle post cut?

@orchardllc It's pretty easy to regain muscle lost during a cut. I shed over 50 lbs during a very aggressive cut at the end of 2022-into mid-2023 and am already basically right back at where I was after several months bulk then a couple months recomp. I almost stopped training entirely too for 3...

    MOD ANNOUNCEMENT: DEBBIE DOWNERS

@curtswill It blows my mind how many people are terrified by a barbell, but don't think twice about an intense game of pickup basketball. I have had countless, serious injuries skiing, surfing, playing football and basketball growing up, and doing manual labor. I've had ligaments reattached...

High volume/highfrequecy advance Arnold split caused an energy crash/fatigue and muscle/joint sourness

@kendraw So you're doing an extremely challenging, volume heavy program that was developed for one of the best conditioned bodybuilders of all time, then you didn't eat for over 24 hrs, and now you're upset that you're overtrained? I'm sorry if I'm interpreting your post incorrectly, but if I'm...

    1 year, 6’2” 37y/o, 215lb weak to 205lb not-weak

@crteague That's the move! I swear 75% of the struggle is just finding something you like. Sadly things like rowing machines and squat racks don't grow on trees, but if you can find someone trying to get rid of equipment who doesn't want to move it themselves, you can get a really good deal...

    1 year, 6’2” 37y/o, 215lb weak to 205lb not-weak

@crteague Way to stick with it! I've been working out (mostly weightlifting and yoga is my jam) as a hobby more years than I care to count, but it's something I thoroughly enjoy....I have so much respect and admiration for ppl who don't really like exercising, but do it anyway for health...

    Switching programs

@rootsrockreggae This is pretty much the only 'thoughts on my program' post I've ever seen where the routine isn't God awful. This looks pretty good. Run with it and let us know how it goes. If you start to feel beat up, it may help you to either shift the rest day between pull and legs, or add...
