What's something you wish you started doing sooner/knew earlier in your fitness journey?

@colwyn This! I never really design true rest days anymore — everyday is an acitivity day, but 2 days a week are going to be chill exercise days! Usually actually hitting 10,000 steps (I average 6,000) or doing a yoga video. I would be bored out of my mind on a true rest day.

Published Article - Creatine intake for females - a lot of benefits, very little downsides (strength, depression, body composition) :)

@worshiper1994 Awesome! Sounds like a great thing to incorporate if it's financially feasible and/or convenient!! For those who might not be able to see the statistics, here's the general idea: creatine creatine has been shown to increase strength performance between 2-10%, increase exercise...

    I can’t do push-ups

@dawn16 To emphasize, muscle memory (perhaps it's better called movement familiarity?) is a huge part of a pushup. I have yet to perform an exercise that is more foreign to my normal movements — unless you push things around for a living, you almost never experience anything similar to the...

What's something you wish you started doing sooner/knew earlier in your fitness journey?

@ronit This is a great response! I think sleep (and diet) are the hardest part for many of us. You know, basically everything but the exercise, which is tough enough on its own. Chronic sleep deprivation is socially programmed at this point — I'm currently an online student who wakes up around...

    I can’t do push-ups

@blowhorn LOL this is a fancy way to say what I did. I just tried over and over to do a knee pushup, but always flopped to the ground until a month later when I squeezed myself back up again. After that, it's comparatively easy to stack on the reps.

    I can’t do push-ups

@ilovejesuschristourlord I remember posting something exceptionally similar to this a few months ago — in fact, here's the exact thread with many excellent tips and tutorial links! I know EXACTLY how it feels. I recently got my first pushups only a few days ago, and before that I was...

teen girl intimidated by mostly-male strength training class

@jrsinct Also a teen girl here! Props to you for getting yourself out there — I don't know if the weightlifting class at your school was as visible as ours, but I would be way too intimidated to pull the trigger on that class. I think this will be an awesome experience just b/c you're leaving...

Here’s body fat percentage results for someone who has never worked out

@yourservant This is super interesting, thank you for sharing! I find the tables of body fat percentiles surprising — seems like the average body fat percentage is higher than I thought. It's cool that you've got top-tier bones without weightlifting! I was just reading how much genetics plays...

    The Elusive Pull-Up

@twinmama What a great write-up, seriously appreciated! I hadn't been considering a pull-up as one of my goals yet because I don't have a bar to perform them on, but the way you simplified the learning process has made it feel a lot more achievable.

Workout Equipment You Love vs. Never Use

@hebahesh Don't really love but use daily: Pink squishy Gaiam yoga mat (actually quite shit, would not recommend) Adjustable dumbbells (one walmart set with unusually large handles and one classic, slightly rusty metal set I got from the garage). Weight plates Never use: Yoga ball + yoga...

What workout videos do you find yourself returning to?

@hb3 I returned to this calisthenics session from Caroline Girvan several times, but I admittedly do not repeat workouts regularly! I liked it because it Incorporated a lot of balance work, which I find super fun, and wasn't terribly difficult (i.e. not HIIT or heavy weights).
