How does crossfit benefit long distance runners?

@jared280 Use it as a General Physical Preparedness program in your off season. It'll benefit you in that you will be doing a bunch of stuff that you are neglecting as a single sport athlete, making you more well rounded. Keep things as basic as you can.

How does crossfit benefit long distance runners?

@abbie333 Well said. Crossfit is a General Physical Preparedness program. Use it as such. You dont use GPP to peak for a sport, you use it to build a base in the off season and maybe maintain a base during season.

Really confused about my nutrition. Please help

@jonnylugs Here's the bottom line - you need to be in a caloric surplus to add weight. If you go too high in a caloric surplus right away, you'll add fat faster. Think about it as two elements to an equation - calories and metabolism. Metabolism is your ability to use calories. If you add 200...

Really confused about my nutrition. Please help

@dawn16 I do have to say though, the kooler is a genius invention and Stan is a great entrepreneur and salesman.

Really confused about my nutrition. Please help

@dawn16 It's free information. Cholesterol is important for hormone production and building cells. OP is eating a diet low in cholesterol. Red meats are high in bioavailable, complete amino acid chains. OP is eating a diet low in red meats. OP needs to progressively overload his caloric intake...

Really confused about my nutrition. Please help

@jonnylugs Do more hypertrophic volume training. At least 3x a week on top of your CrossFit. Watch this

@catrinabrosko This is also the foundation of Louie Simmons' conjugate system. He relates the body to a manual car. You would be remiss to try to pull a really heavy object from a stand still in fifth gear, and equally remiss to try to drive on the freeway in first. I think what you've done...

    Longevity & You

@alandavis51 I see the comparison of Weightlifters to Crossfitters. This can only exist if we are talking about competitive crossfitters. The programming for a competitive crossfitter is not the same as crossfit for longevity and wellness. I think the competitive athletes understand that their...

@oldman1941 When programming for a games athlete, what does the program consist of in the month leading up to regionals and the games? What does it look like in the week leading up to the event?

    C&J/Bench Press ratio

@dawn16 I just named one who recommends it. He happens to have trained (I think) 34 Olympic athletes. You don't have to do it, but you shouldn't avoid it just because you've heard they're bad. I feel like they hit muscles that don't get hit in the same way with any other presses. All movements...

    Longevity & You

@dawn16 The only time I get worried about injuries happening is when someone who comes in to train for longevity decides to be a competitor that day. Lifting weight should not be an issue. When we establish proper movement patterns and reinforce these movement patterns with gradually increasing...

    C&J/Bench Press ratio

@dawn16 Ok bud. Tell that to 50+ years of body builders and Weightlifters. It doesn't have to be full range of motion. I use to have problems because I was doing down to the shoulders, but now I just go to about ear height and it feels great.

Vellner not holding back on Event 6/7 programming

@dawn16 Or just fly them out somewhere (or be significantly less dramatic) on one of the competition days. They did that one year to go to the farm.

    C&J/Bench Press ratio

@jape Charles Poliquin compares the bench Max to the behind neck press ratio, looking at shoulder health. I think he said the Behind neck press should be %50 of your bench. Might have been more.

    Longevity & You

@dawn16 Except Spealler is a competitor. Olympic and powerlifters all train like they're trying to be competitive. They go to meets and thrash their bodies. If longevity is the goal, do crossfit for longevity. That's what it was designed for. If you did the level one course then you should...

    Bad in bench press

@dawn16 Im going to piggy back here because there isnt much useful info down there and I took the time to write something helpful out. You dont want to wait until you're fatigued, post work out to do the thing you need to progress. You also dont want to focus too much energy on something like...

Recovery Tactics For Busy People Who Train Hard

@cherryjohnson Interesting take. It sounds like yout biggest issue is the DOMS. Basically you're asking how to feel like you're more fit because all the crossfit is beating you down so much. I'd bet training at half the effort and putting more effort into eating and enjoying life more would get...
