C&J plus S&S?

I've just finished Dry Fighting Weight, so I'd like to take a short break from pressing and squatting.

Would it be too ambitious to run SW+TGU three times a week, and C&J twice a week on the off days? I was thinking maybe 10 sets of 3 reps with double 24s.

I'm 35/M and I've been lifting kettlebells for six months now. I'm new to the C&J, but I've been practicing it over the last two weeks. I don't intend to ever compete in sport, so I'm not looking for perfect form either.

I know S&S workouts are supposed to be easy to recover from, but I'm worried that the C&J might be just too much when coupled with heavy TGUs.

@mattt I say its good!! If you find yourself not recovering well from the clean and jerks start with 5 sets. Gradually increase 1 set a week if tolerable.

@dustpull Of course, thank you. So far I think I have the basic movement down, what I meant was that I'm not worried about achieving maximum efficiency as in girevoy sport.

I can manage the push, the explosive full overhead extension with the second dip, and then straightening my body. After a trial run of ten sets, I was feeling the fatigue build up all over my body, especially upper back, thighs and glutes. No pain anywhere, so I think that means I'm on the right path. In case of doubt I'll be posting a form check.

@mattt Some people do S&S six days a week and recover fine after working up to it.

I think what you're proposing will be easier on the body than dry fighting weight

@winterreise That's way too much for a single day's work for me. Swings are no big deal, but the TGUs leave me wiped out.

I'm going to be doing something similar, but splitting it. What are your views on doing squats on the same day as C&J?

@mattt I was powerlifter before i found my love for kb, so i'm used to high volume.
The Squats are absolutely no problem and in my opinion it's not enough for one day without them.
You can split it with light, Medium and heavy days if it's too much for a 3 days a week plan

@mattt Find my post on this subject. I started losing time on my s&s when I tried to add days of other stuff. I’m at 3x/wk @100lb bells and just like the book says, if you start messing with it, progress stops or reversed. That said, I ain’t young.

Try just adding one day of other stuff and see what happens. For me, my s&s times stalled for a couple weeks and then started regressing.
