I’m 17 y/o and have been in CrossFit for about 5 months and i want to compete

@maizeemay Go to the Open Leaderboard. Look at the top of the leaderboard for teen athletes near you. Gather a few names. Chances are very high they will have Instagram pages. Their training posts will likely tag their coaches. DM their coaches and ask them the same question you asked reddit. Maybe arrange for a visit with the coach and a sit down.

What you are is more than some online training. You are going to be changing your life

@maizeemay online schooling, training 5+ hours a day, perfect nutrition, massage and other recovery, quality coaching and programming. even after all of that, you might not make it, because you'll be competing against people with 10+ years of cf experience.

in all seriousness, keep training, do local comps, do the open this year and evaluate where you stand compared to other competitors. then absolutely hammer your weaknesses and be realistic about your goals.

@maizeemay Are you talking local competitions or like Sancional-level competition? There is a huge difference in the prep that needs to go into both. Since you’re only 5 months in, I’m going to assume it’s more local. In that case, continue to go and do class workouts and add in extra work outside of class to work on your weaknesses. That will be enough to get you competitive in most local comps. If you’re looking for more elite level competition like Sanctionals, you’re going to need a coach. And you’re going to need to devote a significant amount of your life to training.

@maizeemay Good luck.
Unless youre already the fastest strongest person you know, and have a background in gymnastics and Olympic weightlifting your timeline just isn’t realistic.

Continue to build your aerobic base, strength and gymnastics- especially strict.
The age group online qualifier is going to start soon, maybe compare yourself to other teenagers to get an idea about where you stack up against the rest of your age group

*Slight edit to last line

@maizeemay Find a coach who works well with you and has the skills and experience to work at the level you want to. As a baseline, comptrain has free online programming.

Skills, strength, engine. You can’t win with shitty movement, you can’t win with a 300# squat, and you can’t win with an 8min mile.

@maizeemay Take the necessary time to master the Olympic lifts and gymnastics, conditioning is easy to develop but strength and positioning take time and repetition. The sooner you start honing those in the better.
