Why can I all of a sudden do a strict pull-up?

@jbhoneyangel It's such a great feeling isn't it? "Huh. I wonder if I can do a real pullup now..." Well would you look at that.

What does r/fitness not understand about CrossFit?

@richard11 The thing is, it's actually harder to do a set of 10 full ROM pullups without swinging your body much. And while the butterfly kip is kinda crazy, if you goal is to go from fully extended arms to chin over bar as fast as possible, you can do this motion faster with the butterfly kip...

Big guy wanting to get less big

@vbtyree :D I remember there was a website that did this but I can't remember the name. Basically you were betting against yourself as to whether you could lose weight.

Big guy wanting to get less big

@scoey72 What's funny is that up until a few weeks ago I was all about the stoic philosophy. Then I read a book about neurophysiology by Sapolsky and he laid it all out that we really don't make as many choices as we think. I'm still struggling to accept the reality of it or maybe I'm... not...

Big guy wanting to get less big

@scoey72 Can you explain how? I was extremely underwhelmed by it. What is it about hearing about how someone else did a thing that encouraged you to do things?

Big guy wanting to get less big

@snoober I used to do them at my old desk job just to keep from being entirely sedentary.

@snoober a good cheap and easy way to balance out pushups is band pull-aparts.

If my coworkers can have a 10minute smoke break why can’t I have a 10minute micro workout?

@hercrazierhalf The best physical shape I was ever in was when I was doing little micro workouts at my desk every 30 minutes. Whenever I have highly physical jobs I always end up eating too much to compensate and I never take the time to maintain flexibility.

Big guy wanting to get less big

@tsedy For me weighing and measuring is a silver bullet for weight loss. Sadly I'd rather eat glass than do it.

Big guy wanting to get less big

@black36 It always cracks me up when his name gets brought up in this sub. I read his book based on a recommendation from this sub and I just don't get why people find him motivational.

Curious how any of y’all are balancing endurance training vs strength training

@adrastus Unfortunately, there's only so many hours in the day and unless this shit is your job you're going to have to choose what your priority is. That being said, I've heard that it's possible to focus on strength gains for a while then cycle back to a cardio focus while maintaining the...

Joined a great gym but I’m embarrassed that I’m last at everything

@angie032386 A day will come when you won't finish last on a workout.

Guys w/ giant legs, any tips on pants and underwear?

@jacob98 I really like duluth flex fit pants. They just look like regular khakis but are so obscenely comfortable. They've got something like 3% spandex in them so they don't constrict on larger quads.

For those of you who don’t belong to a traditional box..

@trustlove147 When I first started back in '08 I just did the best I could at the YMCA. Got sooooo many funny looks but this was before my city had a dedicated CF gym.

Says here that the farmer’s carry is a full-body workout. Can I just do farmer’s carries every day?

@dinneratsix Hmm. Instead of farmers walks, maybe you would like to start wearing a weighted vest on your walks if you don't want to do any other exercises.

Says here that the farmer’s carry is a full-body workout. Can I just do farmer’s carries every day?

@dinneratsix You're going to get bored of them after about 4 days.
