Unable to lose weight while strength training?

@solr It’s possible the you’re building muscle and losing fat st the same time, especially if you just started being serious with lifting weights (like newbie gains). However, if you’re not losing weight, you’re not in a caloric deficit. You can decide to keep trying to maintain your weight...

Not everybody will have a bubble butt. And that’s okay.

@g3ntl3w4rri0r That is just so true. I’m actually pear shaped, I have super wide hips (like the bone itself) and store a lot of fat in my thighs, and I’m guessing quite a bit in my butt too. The thing is, my hips are so wide that unless I build an insane amount of muscle in my glutes, it will...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@zastari Well, if I follow the guidelines from a TDEE calculator by putting in how much I exercise, I’d be at an absolutely insane surplus, we’re talking about 1000 calories and that would mean I’d gain weight and be super discouraged too. Also, keep in mind that this is supposed to be read...

    Getting fit after giving birth

@holmeselectric9 I didn’t want to say, but I think so. I understand that right now you’re probably in “planning” mode. I can tell it’s a priority for you so no matter what I’m sure you’ll make it work!

What’s your ‘genius’ high protein snack/meal?

@ayakuro That + slightly thawed frozen blueberries

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@zastari r/loseit suggests exactly that in their wiki: put sedentary and then adjust if you’re too hungry or lose weight super fast. But I guess I could simplify it.

    Getting fit after giving birth

@holmeselectric9 I was overweight when I got pregnant with my first and technically gained ~30 lbs during my pregnancy (I say technically because I actually lost a bit of weight from being so nauseous in the first trimester). This is just my own experience but I immediately lost all the weight I...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@zastari There you go I modified it. I just really don’t trust the TDEE calculators as in my experience it always overestimates by A LOT.

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@zastari That’s kind of what I meant by adjust it if you notice you lose weight super fast but I guess starting by trying eating at maintenance would be healthier. It’s just that most calculators are somewhat accurate until you select to add workout sessions, then most of the time they add way...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@pandafan Once again, that was not the topic of this post and I didn’t want to discuss what the person’s goals should be. Whatever their reason for wanting to lose weight, this just explains why it’s not working. I agree the goal is usually body recomposition but if someone is starting off off...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@jag First one would mean you’re still not losing weight. That’s body recomposition. The second one would be the reason why you’re hungry, not the reason why you’re not losing weight. Third and fourth would just mean you have a lower TDEE. 5th goes back to point #5: something is wrong, talk...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@pandafan Lol that’s funny because that’s exactly what I did. Maintained my weight loss for years from mildly overweight to healthy, had a a major setback (pandemic gave me major depression, ate my feelings) gained 80-something lbs, lost it back. Also, I’m sorry but there are no...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@tverinus I understand your critique and I don’t completely disagree. The idea was that if you’re at a loss as to why you’re unable to lose weight, counting calories accurately is the only way that is 100% sure to work. If this was a post on ways to count calories without making it feel like a...

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@arist007 I’m not sure how accurate is MFP for TDEE calculations but I think what you’d have to do is either put yourself as sedentary in MFP or not eat back the calories, I think that’s what they intended for it it to be used and it’s somewhat of a bug (or just bad app features). Personally I’d...

Is it true that you have to decrease your calorie intake as you lose weight?

@inneed87 That is a good analogy! And technically the mini is more fuel efficient, therefore better. Ok I know most people actually want to eat more food but you can see it in a way like… you get less fatigued going on a hike because you have less weight to carry.

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@arist007 How was your TDEE calculated? If using a TDEE calculator, did you log “sedentary” as your activity or did you log that you workout x amount of time per week? If you logged that you workout a certain amount of times, then it’s already accounted for so don’t eat those back. If your TDEE...

Is it true that you have to decrease your calorie intake as you lose weight?

@debate507 It’s not that your metabolism is ruined, it’s that a smaller mass burns less calories to maintain. A tall man who weighs 200 lbs needs more calories to maintain his current mass + have his organs function. So yeah basically, the smaller you are, the least you burn at rest, just like...

    Confused on Macros

@robertwarhero2 The free version of MFP only lets you put in percentages for your macros but you can adjust it so your goal is about 100mg. That amount sounds about right to me for weight loss, maybe a bit on the low side but not that much. I read a lot on this sub you need 1g/lb of bodyweight...

Plateauing 8 pounds above my goal

@corgigal I recently wrote a pretty complete post about plateaus. It’s in my history if you want to check it out.

The answer to all the “why am I not losing weight?” posts

@pandafan That is not what this post is about, otherwise it would be called “is losing weight the solution for you?”. Muscle mass influences TDEE but most calculators offer to calculate based on body fat percentage. When unknown, it usually assumes average/low muscle mass.
