Can I get enough protein of mainly protein powders?

@laiju1989 There are tasty protein bars on the market now, we’ve come a long way from the disgusting Powerbar bricks from the 1990’s. I’ve improved my health by using protein bars to satisfy my sweet tooth instead of candy bars. Lately I’ve been getting Fulfil, Barebells, and Quest Heros. But...

    Meeting protein goals without dairy

@ilovegod123 I’m lactose intolerant so my dairy intake is generally just a cup of yogurt and sometimes a protein bar since those don’t mess me up. You can easily get dairy free versions of both of those, though. My protein shakes are pea, quinoa, and/or hemp protein mixed with unsweetened...

Can I get enough protein of mainly protein powders?

@oliver23 Definitely, over half of my protein comes from protein shakes or bars because I just don’t like eating many high protein foods.

“Don’t look at the scale, because muscle weighs more than fat.”

@samuelperla Get a tape measure or calipers and calculate your body fat %. Then make your decisions from there.

Just for fun: what’s everyone’s favorite fitness/health “fact” that’s been debunked?

@simple_man I wanted to look like that and I had to go through 4 PTs before I found one who would help me even try to bulk as a 20 year old woman in the 2010s. I kept getting “oh no honey, you don’t EVER want to use dumbbells heavier than 10 pounds or you’ll hurt yourself.” Lady, I work in a...

Dr. Mike on male/female training differences

@seoravi10 I have had 3 male gynos and ALL OF THEM (plus 2 other male doctors) have made disgusting unsolicited comments about either my body or my sex life. One of them assaulted me. I’ll spare you the details because they’d need a trigger warning, but it was definitely not “well maybe he had a...

Are clothes getting bigger or is it just me? 5'2,160lbs, size 8, and fitting smalls???

@mayz I’m the same height and 5 pounds more than you and just bought size 6 jeans- I was BAFFLED when the 8s were too big. I used to wear a 6 from the same brand when I was like 120 pounds (like 15 years ago)! No way are these actually the same size I wore back then.

I feel like my PT is pushing me too hard. How do I tell him this?

@allroads You’re the one paying him, it’s okay to say that you want to ease up a little bit if you’re feeling like it’s too intense. Any decent trainer will understand that you won’t stick with a program that makes you feel miserable, and that you don’t have to nearly make yourself vomit in...

Just for fun: what’s everyone’s favorite fitness/health “fact” that’s been debunked?

@johnscalera Long COVID caused me to escape my multi-year weight loss plateau because everything tasted like metal for months. Unfortunately my body decided to consume my glutes as nourishment first. I went from having a pair of propane tanks back there to looking like a guy who sells propane...

    32yo F and 5 knee surgeries. Am I doomed?

@dawn16 I came here to suggest rowing, too.

Says here that the farmer’s carry is a full-body workout. Can I just do farmer’s carries every day?

@ronaldjose180 I’ve only done this using light enough weights that I was able to hold both in one arm (one in my hand, the other one held against my body with my elbow/forearm) when I needed to adjust the treadmill settings.

Working out with babies requires sacrifice from the entire family

@hopeisalive Absolutely. I spent 3 months straight sick this past winter. I’ve still got a lingering cough. The gains have not been gaining.

6.5 inches off waist, 2.5 pounds heavier

@theeverydaykingdom That does seem to be a LOT off your waist. Is it possible some of it was bloating/water weight before? I’m your same height, pretty muscular under my pudge, and lost 4” off my waist going from 155lb to 140lb. Took me about 2 years but I wasn’t doing anywhere near the level...
