How to choose set of plates for home gym?

@joshlete If budget is tight, Gumtree often have people selling kit. Get cast iron plates not vinyl as you can build up more load on a bar (space is the issue with vinyl). And preferably, an olympic bar and plates.

If you do get "home" weights, then if you see the plate costing around £1 per 1kg then snap it up!

@meredithhww Wait.. What ? I have "vinyl" plates. The bar could hold 360KG of plates at least. A lack of space for plates is never going to be a problem for me.

That are much nicer/easier to handle then cast iron plates.

@albert123 Are we talking about the same thing? I mean vinyl plates filled with sand. Are you talking about rubberised cast iron plates for olympic bars?

@joshlete Get an Olympic bar. Do they make plates that small for Oly bars ? My smallest are 1.25kg, I have 4 but 2 is enough. I use them all the time.

I got nearly everything used off Gumtree here in Australia.
