Rogue E-Coat vs Powder-Coat

@garth428 This is a commonly asked question on the thread. I would try searching. Ultimately, e-coat has a little less grip, but don't chip as easily. While e-coast felt slippery as first, I reminded myself that most of my weights used previously were also slick (I just wasn't slinging em). I prefer the absence of color.
 
@garth428 E-coat is more slippery but more resistant to chipping/damage etc.

Powder coat has more grip but less resistant to chipping/damage etc.

E-coat is cheaper than powder coat, and I have only E-Coats.

Recently there's been some QA issues with shipped e-coats (seams on bell handles, large divots on the circumfrence) but Rogue is good about refunds and replacements.
 
@romanschapter8 I ordered a Rogue e-coat 32kg this past summer. The bell I received had very poor fit/finish with a seam on the handle. As swolecialist mentioned, Rogue was really good about replacing the faulty bell. They sent me a new one, and I was actually able to hand-file the first one smooth, essentially getting two Bells for the price of one. Frankly I’m not a big fan of the e-coat, and I haven’t found it to be that much more durable that my powder coat bell of the same weight. Having said all that, Rogue’s service was very good. The bells are made in America, which for me is a plus. For an American manufactured product, the price is quite good IMO, even considering the quality issues. My hope is that the facility manufacturing them gets a better handle on the process and the fit and finish improves. Hope this helps!
 
@romanschapter8 thank you. after more searching, as recommended by @tythomasjr, i found that most people agree with you so i am gonna get them E-Coats plus some chalk (even if i have never used it before)
 
@garth428 Yup! I love these bells, even the one I have with a divot around the circumference is fine for swings, clean, etc. I don't notice the seams at all and I didn't sand anything.

My only suggestion on chalk is to not get the super grippy one. I'm going to get Vikn the next time around to test.
 
@garth428 I accidentally bought one of each for the same weight. I use them for double work all the time. No big deal - the difference between the two is minimal. They’re both heavy bells you swing. Don’t sweat the decision.

received KBs without issues. they are definitely an improvement from the really cheap ones i have. i honestly didnt have much expectations but they are grippier than i thought.

the handles are smaller than my cheap ones (CAP brand), in both: circumference and width.

@rocky33 oh noooo, too late now. could it be you the ones you got had missed the quality check? worse case, it sounds like Rogue's good customer service will let me exchange them. i will comeback here when i get the e-coat KBs.
 
@garth428 I wouldn't worry too much. I have a variety of no-name low end branded bells and they all work great.

I'd wager any issues with a bad batch of e-coats may be more cosmetic issues than functional.
 
@garth428 When I worked with a coach several years ago, he had e-coats from Dragon Door. Great bells! When I decided to invest in my own recently, I went with Kettlebell Kings powder-coated and I love them. Can't speak to durability yet, but everything else about them is top-notch.
