I'm a newbie and I think my workouts full of pointless exercises so a quick question

E.g. for lat rows is it worth doing 2 different types of rows such as machine row and dumbbell row or is it pointless because they both train the same muscles?
 
@glenn_w_christian Well see if you think about it one you're sitting the other your bent over.

With a cable machine the tension is constant where as the dumbbell tension is lost at the bottom of the movement.

So no I don't think it's pointless.
