Base level support of cardio for athletes

@g2perk Idk if using pure assault bike would be the best method. Let’s say you tested 10 athletes 10 min cal time, and then did something like emom 10 burpee/10 wall balls until failure….would the ranking be the same?

@st333333 to your question: depends but most likely no.

10 min of 10 burpees and 10 wall balls (or any movement is huge eccentric portion and/or mostly limited by muscular fatigue) in my perspective is an inferior way to test "pure" cardiovascular fitness. when oxygen delivery and utilization in the muscle are a limiting factor we lose part of the relevance of this metric.

the reason why I like to use the AB is due to its simplicity and lack of technical demand with less techincal demand we know with higher probability that the improve in this metric is not due to the improvement in technical proficiency, something that can happen in the rower.

also the AB uses the lower and upper body.

@st333333 If in such activities as AB the local muscular fatigue is a big impediment to a better performance then this means that your cardiovascular system is most likely limited by the oxygen delivery and/or utilization into/to the muscle.

Although a full body activity with higher turnover rate will experience less limitation from local muscular fatigue than other types of movements. Running can also be limited by the athlete leg muscular endurance (aka heavy legs) but running output is still a good proxy for cardiovascular fitness.
