@ajoj You look awesome and according to the scan it looks like your body fat distribution is healthy, i.e. pear-shaped, which is better for your cardiovascular and endocrine systems than being thicker around the belly. This is good info, thanks for sharing and best of luck getting into your lower weight class. Super cool that you're gonna compete in BJJ.
@ajoj Your stats are similiar to mine, but I am 66. Anyway, I suggest losing the ice cream and cutting sugar. Your body will thank you and so will your energy level! Good luck! I do think small changes is all you need. A few years ago I got down to 24% so I know you can do it!
@docmichael I wasn't actually looking for advice, just sharing my story, but thank you. I'm glad you've found what works for you. Now that I have my thyroid sorted, my energy levels are pretty great. And sugar is actually super important for restoring glycogen stores and optimizing athletic performance... so I think I'm gonna keep it.
@ajoj Slightly off topic: I have to compliment you on your writing. You cover the pertinent information but in a tone that comes across as approachable and like you don't take yourself too seriously.
Good luck with the competitions! You look fantastic and I'm glad you've found a treatment plan that works for you.
You look great and super strong! Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to get a DEXA myself, I’m sure I’m going to be surprised as actual bf% seems to have only a loose association with how lean/muscular someone looks.
@ajoj I am honestly surprised with your results compared to the pictures. I would kill for a booty and legs like you! And you say you had two children? I never would have known. I think you look like you have a lot of muscle. I'm sure losing those last couple pounds will reveal more of that to you if that is what you are after.
@hannockboy316 The booty is part genetics, but mostly hard work. I did a few rounds of Strong Curves programming early in my weight loss journey. And I still do a lot of glute activation exercises during my warm-up or as accessory work. And yes, I'm excited to see what a ten pound weight loss will reveal.
@abczyx I got it done at a local University. They have a Human Performance research lab where they do DEXA, RMR, VO2 Max, etc. If you're lucky enough to be part of a study, scans are free. I paid for mine though. It was $150. There is another facility in my state that does them for $100 but that was over an hour drive away.
@abczyx Not OP, but I did a DEXA scan and just did a Google search for Dexa scan near me and found a place. Also, look on Groupon. But I was able to buy a package at the place I went to and it included (3) DEXA scans + (3) Fit 3D images for $360
@abczyx If you're in the US, it seems to vary by state-- in one state I lived in, DEXA scans required a doctor's referral to a specialist, and was almost always just used for bone density. In another, you could go to a facility that specialized in DEXA scans and other health measuring tests (like respiratory rate/cardiofitness, metabolism, etc.) and you could just kind of make an appointment as if it were a salon. The latter state had Groupons and almost all the facilities had bundle deals, where if you bought several, the per-scan cost lowered. They tended to be about $100-$175 per scan when I looked. I just googled "Dexa scans near me."
