So I’m going by week to week averages and after just calculating the average for this week it seems like I’m doing 0.1lb. I’m still progressing on everything but I’m wondering if I’d have “better” gains if I increased calories a little bit. Or maybe I just need to measure every 2 weeks instead.

What do you guys think?

Edit: NVM did chest, shoulders, and Tris today and I didn’t add reps to anything lol. More calorie time!

@cybernetic May be losing fat at the same time or dehydration when you weigh it’s normal for a beginner but won’t hurt to increase cals as long you can still notice progression your not wasting time

@randomprose I’m not a beginner but I have some seriously lacking muscle groups like my chest and shoulders I’m trying to bring up before my next cut. Am I right in saying gains may be a bit better with a higher surplus at the moment despite still seeing progress?

@cybernetic Maybe incrementally. It's depends how much muscle you can expect to gain over time. 0.1lb a week is around a 50 calorie surplus, 5.2lb a year. If you think 10lb is realistic for you, then you should up the calories, obviously, because that weight isn't coming out of thin air.

If 5.2lb of lean tissue a year represents good progress for you, then the only real issue with a 50 calories surplus is that it's hard to track, but that's not really an issue in your case because you've seem to be gaining on track with that amount

@cybernetic Water weight is very stubborn. If you are progressing in the gym without cheating your form, don't try to bruteforce the scale going up.

I'm going through a reverse situation on a cut where my weight has been trending up since Saturday. Possibly because I upped my carbs lately and lowered my fats. I look the leanest I've ever been on this cut. I think it's just water and glycogen. The calories I'm eating, it doesn't make sense that I'd be gaining 1.9 lbs in 6 days. My weight has been ticking up consistently across those 6 days too. So my 7-day moving average is also up. And I've tracked as much as I always have done.
