23.1 women’s barbells misloaded

@jwilson757 Sorry to hear about that. Something similar happened to me after finishing on a podium. Leaves a rather bad taste in the mouth after an otherwise great weekend.

MCU refusing to run the story and then being dismissive about it doesn't surprise me at all. After a few emails to their editor regarding the fact that they don't clearly label their advertorials, Justin himself replied to me telling me that they aren't obligated to do so, and said something to the effect that ads disguised as articles are now standard in modern digital media.

I don't expect perfection out of a grassroots start-up media outlet, but I do expect a modicum of journalistic integrity.

@jkhaemba Yeah I was involved in CF for 4 years and several of our members have been too, one who observed screwing over podium finishers is not all that surprising. CrossFit Moxie ran the comp btw.

@quitesmoking123 It’s not even that, someone forgot that women’s bars are 15kg and loaded the bars as if they were 20. That’s where the 5kg difference comes from. But yes I agree that Crossfit should switch to kg primarily

@yungdisciple95 Why not switch to 20 across the board? My non-crossfit gym uses 20 for everyone and it’s fine. I was thinking of starting CrossFit again but it’s like watching kids play dress up at the top.

@morgannorth Actually, if you want to talk about the various sports leagues, many started as non-profits and some still retain that status. NFL and MLB were formerly nonprofits. While NHL and the PGA still maintain that status (to my knowledge). And of course, the NCAA is a nonprofit.

There is a long history of sports leagues and associations being set up as nonprofits stemming from the notion that the promotion of sport is a benefit to society. And of course, recognition of a sport within the Olympic Movement requires that a non-profit sports governing body govern the sport.

@quitesmoking123 It is pretty straightforward. At a basic level anything can be a sport it you do it like that (e.g. there are competitions), but any organization is not a real sport governing body that has no outside recognition from other proper organizations, which is important for example to have independent oversight (e.g. in CrossFit you can appeal adverse drug findings to the same organization that administers the test and decides the punishment, which is 'funny').

@grace4nan Yes, in many ways, crossfit could be viewed as an unafiliated league for the "sport" of Functional Fitness; for which there are an international federation, made up of national federations of which local clubs are members.

The wierd thing here is that crossfit came first and is bigger...
